Re: Madman / Landy on line
Do the installation yourself, it is not that bigger job, drilling into the manifold was the scary part(put a little grease on the drill to keep the cast iron fillings out of the mainifold ), put my egt probe in at the last cylinder closest to the fire wall as that its the one that gets the hottest, ( make sure tha the probe hangs in the air in the manifold and does not touch the opposite side as you will get manifold temp and not exhaust gas temp, I have to ride my troll very hard to get it to read 600 deg
I also made a wire loom up before doing the job had it in the car for four years now without any problems with erratic readings . I opted for the rectangle read out display and put it on a bracket next to the diff lock switch.
Any questions you can pm me

Re: Madman / Landy on line
Josh the problem is your car is under factory guarantee. ...I have installed two mad man systems so far ....no degree needed .....JUST READ THE MANUAL....but we will not go there as it seems the experts dont need to...
Speak to Brian at madman and try and buy the unit with all the bells and ect ....knowing that your waterlevel is correct .....having a means of monitoring oil pressure with audible alarm makes perfect sense to me . Afaik there are diff models avalible Tony has the boost on the madman ....but you can only do one pressure ....so mabe use a manaul gauge and put the oil pressure on the unit?
Hope this helps you
I know Michael bought the clever one and has only connected the egt for now ...then you can add water temp oil temp water level ect. The senders for pressure is a bit pricey but if I drove a turbo diesel I would try keep all the temps and pressures correct and you need to know about problems before something goes boem ....

Re: Madman / Landy on line
Thanx for all the replies
I googled madman last night. I will contact them as soon as I am ready to install it. I want to get the madman and do boost and egt for now. I'll add the rest as time goes on. I think I must give it ago myself. I'll keep you posted.
Thanx again.

Re: Madman / Landy on line
Josh,
I can confirm that installing the MAdman system has saved me a fortune. Two years ago on a trip to Lesotho in winter the decade old radiator in my Patrol failed. That morning Cedric and I started the trolls and enjoyed or rather loved the smell of diesel in the morning. MM started shouting and indicated low water level. On closer inspection we discovered that the radiator had cracked. The temp that evening dropped way below zero. Also the radiator was original and the odo was on 385k km.
As for the EGT system it is a must. I have opted for the oil pressure and it can be irritating, as the alarm goes off when the oil pressure drops momentarily on pull away. I am not bothered about boost, but in your case I would leave the oil pressure and rather op for the boost pressure.
Regards

Re: Madman / Landy on line
haha... Grant... or should I say Papa Smurf..... I remember that day well brother.... what an adventure !!!!!!!.....and we still did that whole trip with that cracked radiator. Here is where the Madman comes in handy to allow you to monitor exactly what is going on even once a problem has occurred. That specific trip was one of the best adventures of my overlanding career !!!!!

Re: Madman / Landy on line
Is there different boost gauges for petrol and diesel. My mind tels me there is no difference. Its an instrument that measures boost. I might be wrong. Want to fit madman for egt and oil pressure then ad aditional turbo boost gauge.
Can some one reffere me to a post of a boost gauge fitted by one of you or post pics please.
I did get permission from the stealer to add these. They feel it adds value.

Re: Madman / Landy on line
Michael will be able to help you there he did some homework on the boost gauges. ....its one that can go from 0 to 2bar your patrol boost .9 at low rpm and 0.4 at flat footJoshJ wrote:Is there different boost gauges for petrol and diesel. I have been looking for a boost guage myself for a while now and I also want to install a manual boost guage alongside my Madman system. I feel it is best to use the oil pressure on the Madman and have a dedicated boost guage.
The ideal boost guage will be one that shows boost only up to 1.5bar but unfortunately the best I could find was a VDO that starts at -0.5 up to 1.5 bar.
Except for the vacuum that it can display I think this one will be perfect for your vehicle, buying one that goes till 2.0bar is a bit of a waste in my opinion.
The ideal guage for my vehicle would have been a 0 - 1bar gauge but could not find one...

Re: Madman / Landy on line
Hi josh
Just check what you max boost pressure should be,the pressure that tinus stated are usually for standard turbo set up
On the zd30 motor are a lot higher than normal setup , it can peak to 1,5 bar so a 0 to 2 bar gauge if you look in the back of
Installation manual the is a part code phone diesel electric they cost around R950 the last time I bought one

Re: Madman / Landy on line
Here is the website of the place I found in JHB that sells VDO gauges
http://www.vdoautomotive.co.za/automotive.php
As Juice then mentioned, if your Patrol's peak boost is 1.5bar you will need a 2.0bar gauge. I will also have a look at Diesel Electrics products
Here are what is available at the above mentioned store
The -0.5 to 1.5 bar gauge is R960 if I remember correctly.
