Thanks, and thanks for the multiple "integrated" trip report!
The 3.0 certainly has a lot of torque for its size. This makes me think that part of the reason why the old 4.2 NA diesel is such a good overland engine, is because it is not strong enough to break any part of the drive train (besides of course being more tolerant to dirty diesel).
Do you know if the replacement 5th gear became part of the factory model in later years and when?
