Frans ... A little off topic, but do you recall those pistons you got for me from Masterparts? Do you know if those pistons are thicker than the Nissan pistons? I was told that the old TD42 (silver top) had thicker piston tops to handle the heat better, but when Nissan changed the TD42 a little to make it lighter, I think thats where the different gudgeon pin sizes come from, the piston tops were made a little thinner. Do you know what the difference between the old and new TD42 piston thicknesses are?

By the way, Frans that motor of mine runs like a dream, I still battle a bit with high EGT's but just have to watch it nicely. she still has loads of power and done 70 000 km on it already!!

Cedric, Only reason for the thikker crown is to allow for the channels inside the piston head, the piston cooler feed them. Remember, if the cooling stops for what or other reason, that piston become weaker than the non turbo one. Yes the gudgeon pin are thinner on the non turbo or black top engine. The word thinner wont bother me, you could hang a tanker on those pins.
I am glad you happy with your engine and it's going strong.

Ok cool .... so those oil squirters that are shown on the pics on the first page in my motor will still cool the piston down even if there are no channels on the piston tops?
