Alex, is this open to all sides? I mean, I'm actually a soutie, merely afrikaanized due to my adoption. So these anglo-boer war stuff alwys put me in the cross-fire?

Well, this year there were definitely souties in the mix!
The battlefield history of the Volksrust area is very rich, incl battles between Zulu and Rooibaadjies.

Hey Guys

Ths is reminder of a great family event. (30 April – 3 May 2015)
Registration is on 30 April, the actual driving starts on 1 May. Drive home on the Sunday 3 May.
It is hosted by the 3 Provinces famr - where the 60th anniversary for Patrols was held.

Lots and lots of 4x4'ing, with the competitive / fun events in between,
(i.e. the 4x4ing is not the competition, but need to navigate with odo meter only - no GPS necessary)

But most of all you get access to trails in and around the Volksrust region that is otherwise limited to the farmers only.

The place is rich in history, Zulus, fighting Boers, fighting Brittish, and all other permutations in between (so it is open to all sides, no matter your geneaology!).

Hi Alex,

Did this a couple of years ago and had fun until a local historian started with a one sided history lesson. We all walked away. The history is very interesting but needs to be told truthfully and with sensativity.

Not for me. Spending most of my time training on the mountain bike.

We did it this year. There was no history lesson told one sided this time.

Well, the 2015 edition of Battlefield trophy has come and gone.
Again I was the lonesome Patrol driver, but at least Noel Jones form NORC in his Hardbody joined me.
Lots of fun. We covered much more of the 3 provinces trail this time. Awesome trail.

Josh, the Battlefield trophy entails getting a navigation instruction document.
Following this navigation then takes you onto various off road routes on neighbouring farmlands, wich would generally be off limits to the general public.
So you don't really know what you will be facing at the start of the day. Every year the route changes. On this year's navigation we did cover parts of the 3 Provinces routes as well.
