There is another product that works really well I have heard, but not tried myself.
Its called PlastiDip (there has been a thread on this forum before about this product)
Its a spray on rubber compound that you can just peel off like a sticker when you tired of it or want to change colour - on youtube you see videos of people spraying entire vehicle with the stuff. It protects against scratches in the bush, and general wear and tear on the paint below. Ideal to do your car before a overland trip then no worries about the scratches etc.
Its an awesome product and you will be amazed! see>
It looks quick and easy to do, you dont even have to take the tyres off when doing rims!
you can buy plastidip at builders wharehouse.
I am really keen to do my entire car in the 'gunmetal grey' colour but cant find this colour locally yet - it is available on ebay though!! :blonde:

Thanks - gave them a call.
Its around R360 per litre, and will need around 8-9 ltrs I recon - still quite expensive, but maybe not if it can protect from scrathes and save a proper paint spray job
I might just buy 1 ltr and test it on my rims!

Is that for a coulour application?

Want to get a can of the clear and spray the sides of the Troll before the river trip, will see how far I get with one can.

You wont get far - need at least 4 layers according the the salesman (also, see on youtube there many videos on how to apply). :naughty:
If you dont do enough layers it will not peel off and you will have major problems trying to clean it up afterwards.
I recon a tin will do just about 1 sqr metre.
But let us know how it turns out anyway - I am very interested in gettiing some inputs from actual experience !

I have used plasti dip, it works great so far - see my post at link

http://patrol4x4.co.za/viewtopic.php?f= ... 4&start=50 - from page 6

There is actually something better I have found since then - if has a better finish and easier to find (builders have it - they dont keep plastidip anymore) - its called flexidip made by Rust-o-liam

Can you just spray it on, you don't need to prepare the rim first?
