Motors were TD42 Normally Aspirated.... looked exactly mine mine so i assume it the same. (also the comment from Mika Salo about wanting a few more hundred horse powers makes sense and leads me to believe they were indeed Normally Aspirated TD42!

)
Only difference i could see was the huge heat exchange unit and the fuel heater unit used to pre-heat the diesel so it doesnt become sludgy at those temps i imagine.
Mechanic Definitely South African.
was an interesting program actually. Im looking forward to the rain forest episode. Best is to just set record for the entire series (3 episodes) if you have PVR.
Russ.
Ps: Those Roll Bars looked flippen professional.

Unfortunately I missed it and would like to see it.
Did somebody record the programme?

I must say I expected more from the car side in the show and less from the social side (wrestling et al).
I.e. more snow driving and recovery of those Russian kombis, more technical discussion on the mechanical issues addressed to handle the cold etc.
How did the vehicles handle the mountain passes, which were talked about, but not really shown.
Those anti-roll bars were indeed very professionally done.
The comment was made more than once that their survival depends on the vehicles (obviously at -60degr celsius).
I.e. it implies that they must have had great confidence in the reliability of the vehicles. Yet the brand name was not mentioned once.
That must be some sort of contractual clause between Nissan and Discovery channel?
Normally aspirated straight six diesel is probably still the best choice for any overland trip, hot or cold!
When exactly will the other two trips be shown?

Alex - see that Red Patrol -- the NISSAN badge does noet eve appear
This is due to to all absorbing greed of the American .. They want a "fee" [a big fat fat fee] to display your badge on their program- if not, the delete it out [just see the other programmes -- how often the shade out a name on a Cap or T shirt
en ons land is ook oppad soontoe

Alex, I set a reminder for next week Tuesday, but it showed that that one will be episode 3...

unless its a typo.
It seems that there are only 3 episodes, last week in Russia ( extreme cold ), episode 2 is the desert run ( extreme hot) and then episode 3 is the rainforest ( extreme wet ).
I think this is more of an advertising program that Shell has launched/done to promote their products. I presume Nissan did not add to the money kitty to get more name mentioned.... but indirectly was still good advertising..... Look at how Jeep got great advertising from the " One car too far" series that was shown.
If Nissan wants to sponsor a Patrol, I'll gladly give up my day job to do a series anywhere in the world !!!!.... And then you will see some fun and laughter.....especially if you know me from the Clubs events.....

There was a nice shot of the front of the Nissan .... showing the badge quite clearly, and a nice shot from the back showing the patrol handle on the back door, but yes that was probably shown for any spares and/or vehicle sponsorship given by Nissan
