Make sure that the person you bought it from, if second hand, has not already fused the hand grenade and that you are driving around on borrowed time. Eg did he tow a caravan, boat, offroad trailer?
Fit EGT before Turbo, set alarm to 650 degrees as a maximum safe operating for short periods of time .
Fit oil catch can to prevent oil from settling on the valves.
Fit bigger intercooler.
Ensure that the MAF is clean and not over-boosting.
Fit a bigger diameter exhaust.
Do the oil services no more than 5000 km intervals.
EGR blank plate, to stop exhaust recirculation.
Fit a snorkel for cooler air intake.
Clean the radiator every ?????? km?
Do not fit to big tyres, my EGT went up by at least 50 degrees since fitting the 305's

This is a preliminary list for myself, please add to the list, elaborate where necessary.

Regards
Couldn't agree more, I bought one that went bang ,build up by a reputable engineering firm in Pmb,then I made my offer at Toyota, left it and 3 mths later I bought it, had a wonderful experience and time with it and done all of above. Traded it in on a Discovery 3

On my ZD 30, I did

Fit an EGT post turbo, cause it was easier , my upper limit was 550 deg, I never exceeded it.
A bad Japanese design is to fit intercoolers above the engine with a scoop, when off roading its insufficient, cause there is no airflow below 90 km/h as tested by the Ozzies, so fit a fan on the intercooler as well.
And block the EGR and de-cat , remove the thing it only increase back pressure and heats up the turbo.O yes and it contaminate the oil.

Loved my ZD 30, better tower then the 4.2d.

Can somebody please help me out on those (red) two items. Where are they located and where do I get them. If you have photo's it would be very much appreciated. I noticed a small oil "leak" around the intercooler in the one corner. Is this something I should "also start leaking" about ?
