Hi Dirk,

Ek het probeer om fotos vir jou te laai op n PM, maar die tegnologie is te rof vir my. Hier is die fotos van die "wasgoed lyntjies" soos belowe.

Sorry to be a battery-piddler. Ek het ook op 'n stadium wasgoeddrade opgehad.

On our first trip to Botswana, the passenger side one's turnbuckle (adjustable shackle) unscrewed itself and fell off within the first 50km of dirt road. Despite the fact that I had locknuts on. Fortunately it didn't get caught under a tire, as that could have caused lots of damage.
I took them off and have never re-fitted them, as I doubt they really serve any usefull purpose. Most branches will just whip back and smack against a side window anyway. And the only washing it is usefull for, are underpants and socks, anything else is too long and will require you washing the car before use!

Also, in my opinion it is both cheaper, neater and stronger to use crimp ferrules (from the electrical section of your local hardware store) than cable clamps.

Ek hoor/sien wat jy se - het weer gedink om turnbuckle bo by dakrak te sit en dan as voorsorgmaatreel die "wasgoedlyn" -loop- te gee na dakrak so indien turnbuckle losdraai is daar ekstra maatreel om te sorg dat hy nie afval nie, sover ek kan dink sal ander bout nie sommer loswikkel??

Dawid ek het toe na die 4mm kabel gaan soek maar sien toe net die wat met plastiek oorgetrek is, dag toe dis nie die regtes nie want plastiek gaan verkleur of stukkend gaan, kry toe egter 5mm kabel by ander winkel sonder plastiek so gaan dit sometime die week probeer

Dirk, that would solve the problem, but I still don't actually see that these things bring any benefit. And they make it much more difficult to wash the car, and can even get in the way of opening the bonnet if your roofrack is not wide enough.

I used a plastic-sleeved cable, but stripped the sleeving at the attachment points. Cable strands break and fray, and if somebody runs their hands along the cable, they can be punctured.

Agree with you Peter, but it it does look lekker - the vrou calls it a christmas tree... I guess it's got the same bennefit as the white writing on the Coopers

I used the plastick covered cable and would probably need to replace them within a year or so. My turn buckle is on the bullbar side to make it easier if I take the roof rack off - no need for spanners then. Will take the advice and damage the thread slightly on the turn buckle to ensure it does not vibrate loose.
