Thanks Strandblom... The search for parts continues I am still looking to import a radiator most likely, Silverton said they cannot fix mine as it looks like the core is also no good :-(

Just thought I'd post a status update to keep you all posted...
I've removed the block and uncovered a collapsed bearing in piston 1 (the horrible knocking sound I'm sure)... I've taken the block to a local engineering firm and they suggested a re-sleeve rather than a re-bore as the pistons are all standard and still OK... there is some scoring on the first chamber... Although I would prefer a rebore with .20' oversize pistons, I just can't source these anywhere except Nissan and it's going to save me +-R8K so I have to go this route. I have managed to source most of the spares (including the rings, although these are simply rings of the same size rather than Nissan originals >R2K cheaper!)
I'm still looking for a new Radiator (Tour de Frans has also kindly taken up the search); and I also want to replace the clutch kit while it's stripped (it's pretty worn); and this I still haven't sourced yet... Also the timeing chain and tensioner (although still looks in good shape, I'd rather replace this now...)
Hopefully should get the block back today (re-sleeved) so I can start re-assembly... Can't wait because I miss my car too much (and I'm fed up of driving my missus little Peugeot :-)
I'll keep you all posted on progress....

Would suggest you stay with the original Nissan Clutch. Visit patrol4x4.com as there are many horror stories of aftermarket clutches. Contact,
http://www.nissan.co.za/en/web/shopping ... r_3578.htm
They should be able to give you a better price.
Regards

Thanks for the advice Grant, I took it and bought the clutch from Nissan... My local dealer matched the discount offered by your tip; but it was still R5K!
I bought the original timeing chain and tensioner from Nissan as well...
I get my engine back from the engineering shop today; so I'll start re-assembly...
Still on the look out for a reasonably priced Radiator; managed to get 10% discount at Nissan but it's still 10K!
I have attached the spec for the Radiator...

Hi there everyone who's following my post; I have been quiet for some time but thought it time for a status update... So here goes:
so far the parts have cost me:
Fan blade: R700
Radiator: R3126 (Bought large radiator from RS Performance in Jo'burg - They use it on the Ford/Chevy V8's)
Clutch kit: R5022 (Nissan genuine)
Engine Spares -
Bigend Bearings: R400
Gasket kit: R1200
Water Pump: R650
Rings: R700 (Toyota 5L compatible - except compression ring which I kept the originals (these were OK as per ring clearance and the Toyota one's don't fit)
Main Bearings - R831 (Nissan Genuine)
Oil pump - R5766 (Nissan Genuine)
Cam bushes - R446 (Nissan Genuine)
Timeing chain and Tensioner - R1831 (Nissan Genuine)
Rear main Oil seal - R699 (Nissan genuine)
Engineering:
Skim head; re-seat valves; compression test - R1300
Re-bore; Re-Sleeve block - R2500
Service kit (Midas): - Oil filter, fuel filter, plugs, misc - R752
So far it's cost me R25923; I've assembled the block gonna put the head back today; then I've gotta try and get this monster engine back under the bonnet!
Gonna have to take the front wheels off to do it...
But it's looking good :-) I'll post some photo's when it's finished! (can't wait!)
Cheers
