So on average, what do the 3.0 diesels do on fuel, 13 Liter per 100KM? Is it possible to get 10KM to a liter if driving nice on the highway?

Any experience from owners are appreciated!

Hi Bart - on the open road I get around 8KPL [12 l / 100km] but Dwergie gets 10 [and better - but AVG 10] I have a size 11 foot, and she is short VERY short and wears a 3/12 - 4 ... so I guess its my heavy foot that uses more [BUT when I drive we always get there quicker WWW ]

I joined Fuelly & entered all my fuel-ups (more than 20) last weekend. It turns out that Chuck drinks just shy of 17 liters of diesel for every 100 kms QQQ

My driving mix consists of commuting to work once a week, going to exotic (or at least semi-exotic!) destinations as many times a year as possible, and driving all manner of 4x4 tracks whenever possible. i like to keep the turbo on song in town so that i can stick with the traffic, and I don't pussyfoot on the highway either....

Above 80km/h wind resistance starts having effects. The formula is Speed Squared. Speed doubles resistance is squared. Local Microlights fly at just above 80 as the wind resistance is very high due to their shape over 100km/h. Back in the days (fuel shortage) thats why the Gov said 90km/h was the speed to drive taking into account speedo errors +- 80km/h. It's the speed at which a brick and lambo have similar drag. If you're ever low on fuel drive around 80 true speed, just check rpm's are within turbo boost.

I agree,

With my Troll std I used to get around 8 to 9 km/lt. With the suspension lift, roof rack and tent, and all the other mods, I now average at 6.7 km/lt. Filled my Excel tank and paid R 1380.00 :rolling: :rolling: :rolling: :rolling: :rolling: :rolling:

I just had the best fuel consumption ever on the way down to Ponta Malongane - just 10.7 liters/100 km, or 9.34 kilometers per liter!

We were four grown-ups, with a fully laden roofrack just to stuff up the aerodynamics even further. Speeds were between 110-120km/hour, but there was no traffic (we drove mostly through the night).

But then we experienced our 2nd-worst consumption just after that - 19.6 liters/100km. That's due to the fact that the first half of the tank was spent driving in the thick sand roads between Ponta do Ouro and Ponta Malongane, and the second half going uphill in sweltering heat past al the road works from Pongola to Piet Retief.

Even so, Fuelly shows that my average fuel consumption is on a downward trend and that makes me very happy :woo:

I get around 10km/l, but that is on the highway, lightly laden, and me driving like an old man.
