Hello Cedric
Sorry to hear about your enjin, here are some pointers if I may.
The pump has got markings inside the cover, they need to line up.The enjin at tdc(top dead centre, fire at nr one.)you will find the markings line up on the pump and drive gear.Dont get it wrong it is not only hard work to fix in the car but difficult to see the gear/marks.Take care for the gears are helical and throw you off fitting the pump.If your enjin's has a vacuum pump under the fuelpump, remove it,it will make life easy with the fuelpump. The vacuum pump has no markings.( no timeing needed)
Send the pump with the injectors to a diesel shop to check the fuel delivery and injector pressure/spray.
The block can be re-sleeved.All the parts you can buy from Masterparts. You can buy a sleevekit(sleeves, pistons and rings) for R6500.The rest you can get from them to,bearings ,gasgets etc.The gasget set are a R1000 and the head gasget are the same as the agents.(inside the set.)You can buy loose sleeves and pistons, but then you need to ask for the Nissan 2.7 parts.Only buy two more for your 6cyl.The 2.7 are a four cyl. and you will be supprised of how many parts will fit your 4.2 for a fraction of the price. They do not have precoms for the 4.2,but they have them for the 2.7 and it fit perfect in the 4.2 head. You have to buy two extra,at R50 a piece. If you need them.Look for cracks on the head @ the precoms. If so,you can knock them out with a 5mm punch from the injector side with ease.To fit the new ones, put them in the freezer for a half hour, and do nothing to the head.(no heating).Only clean the holes where they fit.Drive the new precoms with a soft mallet into their holes till your hear the change in sound. Then you know they are home. The head need to be skimmed after that, because the precoms will stand proud. The specs say precom protrusion are -0.05mm.Dont try to get that, some engeneering guys get it wrong and can mess up your head and head.
Fitting the sleeves are simple and engeneering has to do that. The sleeves HAS TO PROTRUED THE BLOCK.According to specs 0.02-0.09mm.
The rest is straight forward.
Set the pump with a dail guage nr one at tdc fire. The pump must lift the guage 0.76mm @ tdc.To get that, zero your guage and turn the enjin anti-clock,make sure the guage are zero, turn the motor clockwise to tdc fire at nr one.On tdc the guage must have a reading. If not turn the pump only to get the lift.(The sloted side) Set the lift @ 0.76mm-0.80mm.Do not go to a full mm.All this is offcause after the pump is fitted on the timeing marks/gears.
The valve clearance are as follows,do it like this,it will make life easy.
Nr.1 @ tdc fire. Set valves 1 2 4 5 8 9
Nr.6 @ tdc fire. Set valves 3 6 7 10 11 12
With this you do not have to turn the enjin for every set,you turn the enjin only one time.
Set the valve clearance 0.3mm both intake and exhaust. That is a hot setting and need to do it again after the drive in period.
Good luck,hope this helps.
PM me if you need anything else.

Thanks Frans, I saw the 2 "Z" on the one pully and the other "Z" on the pump pulley. I also noticed small hair line cracks on the precomps, but I'm concerned about the head as it seems the head has been skimmed 0.3mm already. So this motor has been opened before!!! Can i still fit new precoms and skim the head again? The head also looks like it has been gas flowed.

Sounds like some one tried to make power.Yes you can get away with more skim, you wont messup compression ratio or so,the head are flat and wont make a differance to take more meat. The only think that will happen,is the rocker ratio wil change a little,do not worry about that for now.
I forgot to mention something of the pistons.
If you buy the sleeve kit with pistons, make sure those are the keystone ones(rings).Allso check the wrist pin size.I think those are 30mm and your enjine are 28mm.Witch is no problem you need to buy the 30mm smallend bush and fit it to the rod's.
Or you can buy the exact thing to fit your enjin.
Do not worry to coat the pistons, something wrong was breeding in your motor. If you buy the keystone pistons,They are mend for a turbo.
If you fit those keystone pistons with the bigger smallend bush,You have to dummy assemble your enjine with the new parts, bearings and so.To check the deck hight of the pistons.VERY IMPORTANT

Does Masterparts supply those Keystone pistons? Is there a part number for them. I'm a bit deur makaar now, The pistons I have at the moment, I assume they are 28mm. Can I buy Keystone pistons 28mm or do they only come in 30mm, and then I must get the bush to compensate for the difference?

Do I need a different head gasket (thicker) now that the head is going to be skimmed for a second time. Is there a part number for this?

The keystone one's are 30mm only. You do not need a thicker head gasget.
The parts and prices I am going to quote now are from M/parts in Bellville Cape Town.
The gasget set are for a 4.2 (TD42).The part nr. CHK2431SA.
The pistons and sleeves are keystone and 30mm pin, they are allso for a 2.7 so dont get mixed up.
Piston-Part nr. PTNI409603DB. R652,12 ea excl.
Sleeves-Part nr. RSE60715. R83.56 ea excl.
Rings-Part nr. PRNI409603D. R731.00 excl. for a set of four. You need to buy two sets to make up for you 6cyl.
I dont have the part nrs. for the other parts, you are going to buy bearings and so on plus the smallend bushes of 30mm.
They should tell you the price.I can get it for you,or you can phone my contact in M/parts if you want.
Let me know.

I will do. I'll also take pics of the turbo, as I was told by the previous owner that they put a bigger turbo on to keep the heat down ( I don't understand this, but assume that if the turbo isnt working very hard them the heat will be reduced). But hey, I have blonde hair and design and draw houses for a living..... so my mechanical knowledge is possibly limited...

What do you think could have caused this problem. Do you think it was a ring that failed, if so why would it fail, that then burnt the piston. The sleeve is damaged I think from the rings as there is vertical marks on the sides. Or do you think there may be over fueling and that burnt the piston, which then worked its way down to burning the rings?

Frans, why do you say that the Keystone pistons and rings are ok for the 4.2 turbo, and its not neccesary to go for the ceramic pistons? I only ask because some people are saying it is better to use ceramics for the heat of the turbo motor. I must be honest and say I trust your judgement more than others as you know this motor inside out

PS: No offence ment to anyone who has said to me to go the cermaic route..... Ek wil net leer en verstaan
