Clem,

You are probably can repair it. I have seen some severely damaged mags repaired to look like new again. Probably cheaper too!!

Thank you guys.

A couple of things on the repair suggestion:

As far as I know, the GRX wheels are unpainted and left "naked alloy". Given that, I wonder whether they can be cosmetically repaired to the same standard as the original wheels.

The current wheel is certainly not damaged in a manner which affects its functional use; rather it is cosmetic in nature. So I will continue using it in the meantime until I find another one.

I also would not want to send off the wheel for a protracted period of time to have it repaired and then find that I am effectively without a spare wheel when I need it most!

I in any event need a sixth wheel for "bush spare" purposes given my intention of keeping this vehicle for many years yet.

The finish is called a "diamond cut" and then spay painted with a clear coat after cutting. Most wheel repair companies can do that. I would suggest Mag Wheel Services, 106 12th Ave, corner Park Drive in Fordsburg. They are open Saturday mornings. It should not take more than a week, at most,to get it back. They modified many, many of my racing car wheels for me, also opened up the centre spigot hole to 110mm from 108mm for many mags for my Patrols and my Safari.

MWS was for years owned by Cedric Saffy, the racing driver of American Sprint cars ex Wembley Stadium near Turffontein racecourse. It is now run by one of his staff members, an Indian fellow, who bought the business from Cedric when he retired.

Yip, I would go the refurb route. It should come out good as new.

On the worry of not having a spare - I’m sure someone on the forum can offer their spare to you for just in case. I would offer mine, but she gets used at least twice a week, so I can’t allow myself to be stranded.

Many thanks Malcolm. I had no idea.
