Re: "Jasper" - Y61 4.2D
Some more good news on Christop's Patrol.
It indeed also has a silver top engine!! Unreal how 3 of those engines landed in my yard at once.
So did an inspection on the pistons (to see what they were) and also looked at the sleeves for score marrks when the sump was off and all seems well.
Engine going back to its home tomorrow and should be done within the next 3 days or so and then its Viper time

Re: "Jasper" - Y61 4.2D
So Michael, besides the internal differences, which you will only know after opening up, what makes the engine “Silvertop”?
Are there any visible differences when opening the bonnet?

Re: "Jasper" - Y61 4.2D
Alex, its actually not easy or even possable to determine if its a silvertop by just looking at it.
The first one I got had a silver valve cover and vacuum pump on the alternator. This is how everyone would expect a silvertop to look and to identify them.
Tommy JR's engine has a black valve cover and vacuum pump under the diesel pump.
Christoph's has a silver valve cover but originally had a vacuum pump under the diesel pump and was later fitted with a alternator with built in vacuum pump. (I only know this because the oil return of the alternator is not connected to the block where it should be, but a pipe was welded to the sump and is not standard.
Dirk's has a black valve cover and vacuum pump on the alternator.
So as you can see there is no real way of knowing.

Re: "Jasper" - Y61 4.2D

Thanks.
Lekker dag,
Christoph

Christoph: Gooi my jou pos adres of POSTNET stasie, dan leen ek jou my AGAROB. [of as jy naby Benoni/ Pta is .. kom haal hom]
