Re: My '98 GU 4.2 TD
Something along these lines.
Also going yo have the scrub bars and rock sliders all linked to the front bar, so 180deg of protection.
I'd love to do scub bars from the rock sliders to a rear bar to prevent corner digs & rear quarter panel damage, but it's not so easily done on the GU as on the GQ models.

Re: My '98 GU 4.2 TD
Wow Dustin that looks GREAT!!!
My 4.2D hood has a hole in it where someone before me had decided a hood scoop would look nice (without the inter-cooler to go with it ). Closed off again by the next owner. I think I'll have to use that hole one day
Anyway, well done chap!

Re: My '98 GU 4.2 TD
So I had to unfortunately sell my beloved Patrol.
Marius Barendse (MariusCZ4000) is the lucky owner of my baby.
But things took a very unfortunate turn on his way home to Beaufort West.
Just before Wilderness in the dark disaster struck !
Long story short, the Madman didn't pick up any problems and suddenly all hell broke lose and it's suspected that a piston cracked.
My heart sank at the news
I couldn't believe after all my meticulous hard work that this could happen.
No one can say for certain if it was the turbo conversion that caused it, because the motor was never opened and I made very sure to keep the boost and temperature levels way below the safety factor.
It could also have been from the previous owner, but it's impossible to say for certain.
It's just a very unfortunate circumstance to be in.
Thankfully Marius is ok and the Patrol will be going up to Michael for a bit of TLC.
I felt it the right thing to do from my side to at least contribute to the repair.
I'm a firm believer that the wheel turns and bad karma will come back to get you when you least expect it.
It's a situation I'd hate to find myself in and I'd hope if it did have to happen that the seller would do the same for me.
Even though the Patrol is now Marius', I still feel a deep connection to it
I'm going to ask Michael to post pics and findings of what happened on this thread, just for the sake of continuity of the vehicles history on the forum.
I'll ask the admins if this thread can somehow be transferred to Marius' profile so he can hopefully keep the history going.
Not a great thing to have happened, but I know Michael will get her running in tip top condition and she'll give Marius many happy, trouble free miles

Re: My '98 GU 4.2 TD
Sorry to hear about this bud.... that is really crappy luck.
Dustin, let Marius continue on this same thread, just saying that he is the new owner of it, and then there is a perfect continuation. Also I have no clue how to transfer this over to his name anyway.....

I don't think it is either possible or desirable to "transfer the thread".
So you'll just have to buy the car back...
Sorry to hear about the issues, that's not cool.
