seatbelt rewind

Post by hugejp »

Howzit guys,

I'm sure a few of us especially with older Patrols have noticed the lack of pull on the rewind of your seabelts??? Drivers belt especially...

My vehicle is a 2004 & the drivers seatbelt is taking a bit longer to retract that I remember when I first got her.

Are there any fixes for this or is this a trip to the scrapyard for a newer unit?? & is this an easy job?

Can the clever okes please chime in here...

Cheers

J

Mine is the same on the 4.5. Have to manually "feed" the belt to make it retract.....(2000 model).

So...

After a few mins on Google it seems alot of this issue is caused by nasty body oils, dirt & all the general k*k from our hands getting into the webbing.

This makes the belt more stiff & it struggles to bend through the guide, making it retract slowly.

There are a few tuts on how to scrub & clean the belt to make it supple again.

Seems to solve it most times.

Nice find JP.....will be cleaning mine soon as mine also has the same problem.
Im just wondering if this is the actual cause of the seatbelt retraction problem?

I agree that the mech may need to be cleaned of fluff & dirt, but oiling & greasing??? I'd be worried about grease getting onto the belt itself so I would proceed carefully with that approach... IMHO

Good write-up here.

I've done the rewinding bit on a previous car - it takes a lot of focus and preferably extra set of hands...
