Re: NOROC: Strategic Session on the "Way Forward": 2017-01-1
Thanks George.
Let me start off by saying that everything I have posted so far has not been an attack on any individual, the committee or its members. They have been hard questions that clearly need asking as the impression I have personally got as a Newby is that there is a lack of transparency. Not a lack of commitment or integrity.
There is clearly still a problem as the first poll showed a 73% interest in Noroc which has swung to 71% no longer in favour ie. unless something is done NOROC is unlikely to survive or have a membership which is so small as to be inconsequential.
With regards to my 2 specific questions;
- The impression I got at the meeting was that the submission made to Nissan was on behalf of NOROC. I did not realise it was an individuals submission so either the impression created was incorrect or I was not listening properly.
- With regards to financial considerations etc at the time of the meeting I was totally unaware of any. However started to hear "rumours" from different people and as I hate rumours I asked the question. My personal opinion is if there are any financial links it just needs to be made public and if there are none also made public. Simple as that and the committee and membership can decide what is appropriate or not. Unfortunately "I do not know and please phone so and so" does not do it for me. The committee should be fully informed and be transparent on the subject.
This will be my final post on the matter as I am one of the 71% that has voted no so this discussion now becomes irrelevant to me for the moment.

Good evening everybody
The following actions items were logged with Nissan:
Provide feedback on Strategy document;
Requested meeting to discuss vehicle models available in SA;
Possible discount on vehicle parts based on registered VIN numbers and Club membership?
No feedback has been received as yet. I have requested a target date in this regard.
I have attached the Strategy presentation that was submitted to Nissan.

Re: NOROC: Strategic Session on the "Way Forward": 2017-01-1
I didn't notice the attachment before, and I must say, I am deeply dissapointed.
Whoever wrote it has no idea about the 4x4 market (I assume it actually was somebody from Nissan, seeing as it is marked "Nissan-Strictly confidential".
Some points that immediately raise my ire:
1) They want to give accredited training to journalists, targeting on the specialist 4x4 publications. A number of us know a couple of Weg-Ry guys, and I also know a lady from Leisure Wheels. These people have all done these courses, most of them more than once. I think inviting them to a course would actually be seen as patronising rather than appreciated.
2) Sani pass? Seriously? Somebody did that in a near-standard Porsche 1911 a couple of years ago. Everybody who has driven it knows that, unless there's actually ice present, it is little more than a graded dirt road, and if there is ice present, all you're bragging about is your tires. If you want real 4x4 people to notice, do a river trip or Baboons or a trip to one of the remote islands in the Makgadigadi.
3) An off-road competition that is suitable for X-trails? Seriously? Need I even say more?
Seems to me they have managed to miss every single point we were trying to make.

Re: NOROC: Strategic Session on the "Way Forward": 2017-01-1
Good afternoon everybody
It has been very quiet on this front for some time now and I must admit (never thought that the day would come for me), I have now given up on getting the Club going again.
The only feedback we have received from Nissan is that they are interested in supporting the Club, but only after the Navara launch - when and in what way, no-one knows.
We have compiled a list of "Club" events and have published this on the Forum and from what I could determine, there were also complaints about doing this?
Where to from here? I will communicate to all Club members (paid up for 2017) and obtain there input on next steps from a Club continuation perspective. If they indicate that we must continue, then I will stick it out and continue my involvement - just with no Nissan dependency - as in the old days as per Uncle Mac below.
I will still be enjoying driving my Patrol and attending events that are organized here on the Forum - will even avail myself to organize some of these....
