Tyre prices
Me is thinking/hoping that the price of tyres may come down in the next couple of months due to the Rand doing well as our dear esteemed leader has not opened his mouth for a while.
Any idea as to how long it takes for the exchange rate to affect the prices? ie How many months stock do they keep?

Re: Tyre prices
Hi David
There is a certain standard in the OEM automotive industry in a sense that Prices are adjusted to the rate of exchange on quarterly basis. How far this filters down to the dealers is anyone's guess. They might still have a certain stock level which they might want to sell at last quarters price.
As a guideline one should see a price adjustment on a quarterly basis.

Re: Tyre prices
The Rand has strengthened by 20% which should make a difference of R 900 per tyre on a R 4 500 MT. Buying a set of 6 would equate to a R 5 400 saving.
Somehow I don't think this will happen but we can hope and even if they only drop by 10% it equates to R 2 700.

Re: Tyre prices
I think it depends how far up the food chain your are. The big importers and suppliers are already adjusting pricing here and there.
We supply many mining workshops with everything from LED truck lights down to their MIG wire. I don't have a set price code list, I quote ad-hoc off my supplier quotes, and in the past two weeks we are suddenly the cheapest and the orders are pouring in.
I compared quotes to some competitors, and they are either marking up by 60%, or they are sitting with a lot of old stock on hand. I am up to half the price on a 15kg roll of imported 1.2mm MIG wire. Makes for a bit of a saving when a workshop is going through 50-70 rolls a month. Strangely the local product has not changed price and the gap between local and imported, that was around R5/kg, has shrunk to R1/kg.
SO, we live in hope that we see some relief on the tyre price, it would be great, but I still don't think I will have the budget to do much with it.

Re: Tyre prices
Planning on MT's in Oct and I really like the Cooper STT pro's.
Now the 265's are R 400 per tyre cheaper than the 285's so that could be another R 2 400 saving.
I am very happy with the gearing on my vehicle with the 285 AT's and I reckon the 265 MT's would be more similar than the 285 MT's.
Decisions, decisions decisions???????????? But these days it's a big investment that requires thought and you don't want to make the wrong choice......
Errol - Which tyres did you say had incredible grip? Hankook's ?
