Fanus ek verstaan jul gaan die 4.5 net gebruik vir n familie kar. Hoekom ruil jy nie die bakkie en GU se shocks en coils voor om nie. Kry erens n stel OE coils vir die GU agter en sit extended shackles op bakkie agter. Dans jou bos bakkie gelig vir amper niks geld. Jy kan ook die voor bumpers ruil. Die bosbreker opi bakkie sit en die oe bumper net laat paint en opi GU sit. N std patrol is reg vir 90% van ry. Vakansie. Overland ext..

Josh , not a bad idea at all, however, from personal / past experience, 3" front coils, and even 2" front coils, cannot be matched just by adding extended shackles unfortunately.

As we know,typically by extending any shackle by 2" you only can 1" out. And with the Patrol, due to the factory designed location of the leaf packs to the chassis, this amount is even less, and if its a worn spring pack, then again, even less.

So to match a 2" coil you would have to increase the shackle length by roughly 100 - 135 mm minimum , and to match a 3" coil that would need to be increased by roughly 150mm - 180mm, or even more.

The standard patrol shackle is 80mm pin to pin if i remember correctly. so pin to pin lengths would be:

2" - 180mm - 215mm
3" - 230mm - 260mm

These are conservative figures, i feel it would need to be even longer. And the problem with going longer is that you end up with twisting of the shackle , causing fatigue and failure, not ideal for a bakkie that gets loaded and purchased for reliability. Another side effect is poor shackle angle, which will make the ride firmer and choppy. The only way to then combat this is to increase the length of the top blade.

Another side effect is a bakkie that sits level, or even down at the back. This is poor for caster and make the steering light and twitchy, specially when it carries a load as it will now drop even more in the rear.

using the 2" front coils and adding extended shackles to try and match in the rear can work to a degree, im not saying its impossible or not worth trying, but depends on the vehicle, as they all slightly different and all have slight tolerances.

Fanus as jy sou belangstel ek het 4 splinternuwe skokbrekers en coils .die voorste coils het ek op die rooi patrol gesit en agterste is nuut maar daar is niks verkeerd met die ou voorste coils nie
dit kom van n 2014 3.0l patrol af.Die eienaar het die Patrol gekoop in die Kaap en terug GP toe gery en n lift kitt ingesit.

Ja maar die rooi patrol moet ook gereed wees om enige trippie in die bos te doen. Oorweeg dit om die rooi een river trip toe te vat in Augustus.. sal maar sien wat gebeur.

hahahaha. Jeez boet, at the price of rear leaf packs these days i reckon i'll have to drive them till they stuffed! prices of R10 000 - R15 000 per set just for the rear blades. (that doesnt include bushes, pins, or anything). Bliksem.

What suspension do you have in your bakkie.. TJM?
How much lift did you get, 2 or 3 inch?

If you extend both front and rear shackles, you get rid of most of the drawbacks of extended shackles.

However, it means that the place where you bottomed out on the river trip last year is no better than it was.
