Re: TD42 Lift Pump
Fuel starvation or especially fuel starvation after it stood for a day is forsure a leak somewhere in the supply fuel line and that is 9 out of 10 the fuel pressure regulator on the 4.2 diesel pump. That pressure regulator gets set by tapping it with a steel rod while you have a fuel pressure guage installed(not that easy). I normally do it while the engine is running, tap the fuel pressure regulator slightly until I can hear the engine idle go up slightly.
Trust me no lift pump needed, wasting time and money.

Re: TD42 Lift Pump
Hi Martin
Im not sure a 4.2 diesel has a fuel pressure regulator, if it does I dont know where it is.
As far as I know it just sucks the fuel from the tank and supplies it to the injectors which then pops at the set value.

Re: TD42 Lift Pump
The fuel pressure regulator is a mechanical regulator that is usually connected to the side of the common rail. The TD42, as far as I know never came out with a common rail fuel system. I stand corrected on this but I think even the TD42T that came standard from Nissan, with a turbo was old school injection and also not on a common rail.

Re: TD42 Lift Pump
Hi Michael
Groete

Re: TD42 Lift Pump

Martin, that is very interesting.
I will see if I can find mine on the pump and see if I can adjust it.
Thanks for the youtube clip

Re: TD42 Lift Pump
Only a pleasure, this made such a big difference on my 2.7.
Everybody know that more fuel pressure relates to better fuel spray and better fuel spray means better an quicker combustion and that means more power and better fuel economy.
I also wasted time and money on a lift pump to find the culprit a week later.
