Do you really need torque at 500 rpm?
I get it at 1000.
But you do not crawl naturally over rocks with a petrol engine, unless your foot is ever-so-slightly on the pedal. Not even a big straight six.

But the difference between 500 and 1000 is too small for me to manage by foot

What I have considered doing though is installing a "volume switch" on the dashboard with which I can tweak the amount of revs much more accurately - just enough for a given incline.
On a very smooth torque curve such as mine, I think that will work.

From what I have heard the Navara 4 l needs a timing chain at about 200 000 km's and the TB 45 needs it at 500 000 km's. That would end the discussion for me.

Hi Willem. Gooi daai Navara V6. Jy sal nie spyt wees. Die manne met die 4.8's is net bang jy gaan draaie om hulle ry en nog beter consumption kry. :rolling: :rolling:
According to michael figures theres only 400rpm in it before you get max torque. And at 3600rpm you could even be level with the 4.5. I had a 4L Navara. I removed all the cats. And added a dastek chip. It made 216Kw on the flywheel and 440nm torque. I had no isseus with torque when towing my 2ton off road caravan or over 2ton trailer in thick sand in moz. :mytwocents:

Thanks for the feed back. My 4.5 engine went in Zim and took 7 weeks to get it out. A engine overhaul v a recon Nivarra engine is what I am consedering now. Cost wise the overhaul and the straight costs of a Nivara engine is the same but I fear the EXTRA's to get it fit properly. Would I need another gearbox - I assume - but what else is the question.

Find a 4.8 engine - should just about fit without any big mods...

Any other engine will be costly. Because of the management system ext. That needs changing.
the heapest will be just to rebuilt the 4.5. Then you no there is no hidden costs and everything fits as it should. The cheapest engine change is the lexus v8. You get good deals on motor and wiring management incl. :mytwocents:
