Kgalagadi Trip Jan 2016

Post by Jepan »

As I mentioned in a previous post we're planning a camping trip for the first week or so of January. Most accommodation in the Kgalagadi is fully booked early January so we're booked into the Kgalagadi Lodge is 5 km's outside Twee Rivieren for those few days until we can get in to KTP.

We're a family of four with two kids under 12 y.o so it seems that from a camping point of view our options are limited to Nossob, Mata Mata and Twee Rivieren since the wilderness camps don't allow kids younger than 12. If there are other options please let me know. I must say we're a bit worried about the heat and kids but I guess we'll be spending some time at swimming pools to cool off.

I was also wondering on the best place to start i.e. I would think that starting at Nossob and then working our way to Mata - Mata and then finishing off at Twee R. would work but I don't know if anyone else would opt for a different sequence?

Any tips, it's our first time and I would really want to maximise the trip.

Cheers,

Stjepan

Stjepan, if you are up for it, you can also consider the Botswana camps (Two Rivers, Rooiputs and Polentswa). Completely un-fenced, so you need to keep a careful eye on the kids.

As far as sequance is concerned, apart from Mata Mata, I doubt it's a biggie. You will probably find yourself game-driving in excess of 100km per day, so pretty much covering almost all the roads.
Mag ons ons kenniskry met lekkerkry aanhoukry.

Nossob has a swimming pool, Mata-Mata doesn't (AFAIK).

Stop at ANDRIESVALE, go the the Bushmen Council, hire a Bushman Guide and go to Welkom, Bô'jaanskop and Sebobogas [Exclusive grounds of the ‡Khomani San inside Kgalakgadi Park] and go and live wild [fully self supporting] for a few days [Heat & kids ?? couple of million of us have grown up in that same heat .. I'm 64 and still alive  :oldtimer: ]
If Am-Am [pronounce Ahgm-Ahgm] is available, he knows the veldt best, now that Dawid and Andries Kruiper have passed.

Pardon the late response, I haven't been online for a few days.

@ Kagiso II

I didn't know one could do that - sounds good. What are the costs to do something like that?

Jepan,

You all booked and sorted or do you need some help with 'space/place ' in the Kgalagadi?
