Hi Maurice
I have a ecu you can borrow to check that it is the ecu that is giving a problem ,
I still stand by my conversation with you ,that it is the nats that is standing in your
way to start the motor ,been through it a year ago when my diesel pump was
redone ,they blamed the timing was out ,stripped nearly the whole motor to get to the gears
just to find out they were all in the correct position , then it was the injector fault check all of them
(if you take the zd30 injectors out ,you never get them in the same postion and the spray patten change and you get a slight
power drop, I have been told and read a lot about it ,mine seem to be fine let see next Saturday.
Then it was the pump fault ,out it came again to be put on the computer calibrator, no human intervention
to set the pump , no problems on that side , then it was the crank sensor ,no problems , in the end it was the nats that
had to be reset ,and then it wanted to see both keys and wala we cranked the motor
and THE BLACK SMOKE appeared , and then I stood and what them put everything back together
Did you take both keys to the ignition ? If not please try it .
Seen it a number of times with the zd30 motor , what code does the ecu throw
out ? ecu don't just pack up

Hi Greg, thanks for taking the time to reply.

McCarthy Nissan had the ECU tested and as you rightly predicted there is nothing wrong with it.

McCarthy Nissan were so convinced it was the ECU they left everything standing until it was tested. I have asked them to put everything back together and I will take the second key on Tuesday and see if I can get it started.

Have a great weekend, I am off to Midvaal to the 4x4 racing and Outdoor X event this weekend at Malonjeni Guest Farm

Best regards

Hi Maurice
A lots of Patrolier are talking about keys and ecu's,
I had a client one day and said his wife was stuck in a parking lot with a Nissan V6 hardbody, she drove it there ,went shopping, came back and the car wouldn't start, cranks everything ,
long stories and efforts,it turned out that while she was shopping and having a BIG hand bag ,keys been thrown around etc...the little transponder in the key fell out,and the ecu couldn't pick the key code up
So maybe try the spare key
But goodluck

YOU CAN WITH A NISSAN .....!!!!

Hi Juice and all Forumers,

Sorry nothing yet

I am out of town at the moment and Nissan McCarthy are just giving me Blah, Blah, Blah each time I phone.

Now I am left wondering what else are they breaking whilst trying to find "wiring fault"

Dear all, there is still no real progress from the Nissan McCarthy Group.

I was there on Saturday and of course the technician that was working on the vehicle has resigned, so this is now the latest excuse why things are running so slowly (or actually not moving at all).

“Someone” has told them that the vehicle has either no or low compression. I asked them for the readings from the compression test. They told me that they cannot perform a compression test as they do have a compression tester. After 18 weeks they are now running around trying to organise a compression tester!!!!!!!!

Next McCarthy Nissan said that the ECU will not communicate with their Nissan Diagnostic Laptop. The complete plug and relay assembly that is mounted under the dash is hanging down.
If you touch the wires on the back of the small brown engine light and glow plug relay – it goes on and off. If you hold it in position by hand then it is possible to get it to stay energised. Using this method on Saturday enabled the Nissan Diagnostic Laptop to successfully connect ONLY ONCE, but at least all of the engine fault codes could be cleared and the ECU reset. So at least the good news from this is that the ECU is definitely working.

I have left it with them to get someone from Nissan SA to come to site on an URGENT basis as time (and patience) really is running out now.

Best regards

Maurice

Reading your anguish i have to say this is TYPICAL Nissan bullshit. ... i feel for you mate.

Unfortunately, this is Nissan's Modus Operandi.... and it wont change. Even when you talk to the top Manager of the Nissan Customer Care Service in regard to major complaints and ineffective service from the branch,... that Top of customer care official will also leave you hanging and not get back to you,... even when they promise they will. I have been through this kak with them before, so its not hear-say.

I truly hope you get your vehicle sorted out soon, and relatively cheaply... and never have to set foot in there again.

Hi Maurice

Unless your car is under warranty, I will not take it to Nissan. I notice this is a 2002 model, so those were within the 'risky' years for the ZD30.
I would rather go to a resident expert that has a passion for these vehicles.

Alternatively go to the top:
Russ, I recall someone on this forum some years back managed to contact Nissan HQ in SA directly to get a poor service problem sorted?
