Ha!... a 2Lt 4 Cylinder Amarok Diesel outperforms a 4.8Lt Petrol Big 6 cylinder in the sand dunes.... Not in this world or the next. Simple Physics says its just not possible.

TB48 Patrols are hailed as one of the best dune compatible vehicles in the world.... never seen a 2Lt amarok in Dubai Dunes or anywhere in the UAE,... and thats God's Big Sand Box.

Bottom lime is something was either horribly wrong with the setup on the Patrol, (ie: Limp mode or some other technical limiter),.. or the driver is a moron.... But, .. TB48 have made even the worst drivers seem like the best, purely due to its outrageously good performance.

Must say the Amaroks did not do bad last night on Safari 4x4 where they drove the "doods akker" and those dunes at the Kunene river.............., even with the trailer, but yes there should be no way that they should outperform the 4.8!!

There is a fairly well known clip of an Amarok towing a 4.8 at Vleesbaai.
I have been on the Vleesbaai trip twice. Wont go again, too expensive.
But on my last trip I spoke to the guide (drives 4.2 diesel cruiser 80 series). He said the clip was real, but it was all down to tyre pressure. The Vleesbaai long dune is all about momentum. It is long but starts very flat. That is why the 2 litre double TD can do it. Paradise 4x4 at Wilderness is harder, and Brakkeduine further East near Humansdorp even more so.
My last dune trip in December at Brakkeduine my car was tested to the limit. Short acceleration space, and turns in the dune requiring to keep momentum on a trajectory of the dune, nerve-wracking. It pains me to say it, but the diesels on that particular trip chopped off big time. It is not their terrain to rule, pure and simple.

I am still counting leave days and negotiation with other priorities before I can commit to the Northern Cape.

Okay, Thinus

Bud, im very keen on joining you guys. Only real issue for me (and the rest of you subsequently), is that with my work at that stage i cannot commit till the last minute,.. (and i know that is not usually acceptable for a group outing as its unfair on the rest of the group).

I will try figure out the schedule as far ahead as possible, ... maybe there would still be a spot for me. Its a gamble but ja, thats all i can offer.

Green with Envy, would love to joing you guys/families.

Note: My Patrol would be the vehicle with the least amount of Flex (Patrol Bakkie), and the least amount of Power (4.2 Normally Aspirated),... but i'll gove it a go!... I'll bring the snatch strap and pull straps.
