KAGISO II

Post by Tiny Howarth »

Oompi, just a quick question the API GL-4 Oil you recommended for the gearbox and transfer case for the 1999 Manual Box Patrol,is this a Synthetic oil?

I went out and bought Castrol Syntrans Multivehicle 75W-90 Manual transmission oil, i hope this is the correct oil, very expensive  :blonde:

Tiny, my car didn't like that stuff. Seems to prefer the Castrol non-synthetic oil...

Perhaps the spares shop will exhange it it you haven't put it in yet?

Thanks, could not put in gearbox oil yet, only transfer case, could not change the gear oil due to some clever guy welded a piece of thread rod on the filler plug, tried to loosen with pipe wrench but thread rod broke out, plug block is damaged, had to leave like such and drove the Patrol from Cape Town to Walvis Bay, now home will check what i can do to get plug out.

Some people really shouldn't be allowed near welding equipment!

OK, the issue that I and Gerrit Loubser had with Syntrans is that it seems to degrade synchromesh performance.

On that basis, it is probably OK in the transfer case, but I am not expert enough to give any guarantees.
