Patrol Recovery !!
I am going to Moz on the 27th and in doing a once over have discovered A) that my existing front recovery hook is bent backwards and is showing signs of metal fatigue due t the bend and B) the recovery hook I had planned to install on the left side does not fit due to a non-standard bolt being in the way!!
I am towing my conqueror caravan for the first time and am loath to try it without front recovery points. Does anyone know where I can get recovery hooks for the front in short time! Help!

Re: Patrol Recovery !!
Carlo, I replaced mine with Peter's recovery points, so I have a hook if you want it.

Hi Stefan!
I would kill small furry animals for one! I am in JHB so will have to arrange to get it from you in CT. Can you text me your details and I'll give you a call.
My number is zero eight three two six two eight nine two zero.
Many thanks - there is not a deal in JHB with stock and the factory does not have stock. I am trying to find two so ... one down one to go!

Re: Patrol Recovery !!
pm replied to. Just remember that the standard hook won't fit on the left-hand-side chassis member (Left Hand side when you're sitting in the car facing forward).
1. The plate is on the "wrong" side of the hook.
2. Not sure about the 4.8, but on the 3.0, although there are holes, they are not threaded. You'll have to fit some riv-nuts
Edit: clarifying my left- from my right-hand side.

Re: Patrol Recovery !!
Stefan, on my 4.8 GRX I relocated the standard hook from right to left with no problems.

Re: Patrol Recovery !!
Clem, did you mount it facing inwards as well? If so, your standard hook must be different to my standard hook.

Re: Patrol Recovery !!
Errmm...facing inwards? It's mounted the same way it came from the factory, just relocated from right to left. I had to do this as when fitting the PC bashplate I found slight misalignment of the bashplate holes on the right which made refitting the hook in the original position a bit difficult. So I just moved it to the left. Does that answer your question?

Re: Patrol Recovery !!
This is the hook winging its way to Carlo.
I'm not a mechanical genius, so as far as I can see, it will only fit on the inside of Right-hand-side (as you're sitting in the vehicle facing forward) chassis member.
Could you put up a photo of your setup Clem?

Re: Patrol Recovery !!
What a forum: posted my plea for help at 1:30 on Friday afternoon. The courier company picked Stefans up in Cape Town at about 7pm and delivered it to my door in Midrand, Johannesburg, at 10am this morning.
Only to find it doesn't fit! I actually think that someone is telling me I wont get stuck towing my caravan in moz! So after a bit of cursing I eventually managed to get to LA Sport in Pretoria who rummaged through recovery hooks they had and with a bit of drilling to get the holes aligned I left with two working hooks (with the correct bolts!).
Two good things came of this: firstly, thanks to Stefan for being so willing and helping me out - "Give that man a Bells!"
Secondly, on closer inspection the hook that was on the car had been bent and already had small cracks in it. Imagine trying to get towed out of sand with a cracked recovery hook...
Now I can go to Moz!
