Free Flow and DeCat on 4.8 GRX

Post by NISMOnator »

Hi Almal,

I am looking at doing a free flow with decat, not touching the branches and no chip. Who can you guys recommend? I know about MAUS, PowerFlow and maybe Vander Linde?

Who does a good professional job?

Thanks

For what you want I would only use VIPER [Kempton Park] -- speak to ABEL there --[ Lots of cars on the race circuit use VIPER's exhaust systems]
Yes - I have VIPER on the Prado [including branches] and he knows waht to do with the CAT's too :-)

Rob Green Motorsport in Strijdom Park is another option - speak to Stephen or Mike. Did some tweaking on my diesel as well as a decat and chip.

Wildcat & Viper has good reputations and knows the game.

But, looking at a set of branches the other night, PC and I discussed the extra heat transferred to the engine bay by these (that otherwise would have been released as heat in the exhaust gas at the exhaust exit. Definitely you'll end up with more engine heat, no doubt. Not good. Also, the exhaust manifold creates a certain amount of "back pressure", the designers take this into account when building the whole puzzle. So where you may end with marginally more power, you will very well pay the price somewhere else at some later stage in the future.

Do not fiddle with the branches: keep it stock and use the money for your holiday. The return on investment you'll receive from SWAMBO will most likely be a much bigger rush than what you'll get from trying to convince yourself about the effect of the 3% extra power... :woo:

As for the Cat: prior to environment panic and green men forcing cats, no cats were voluntary found on vehicles - in my opinion a good indication that they do not add value (apart from saving the earth and keeping the platinum price up). From a power perspective, it is one thing that may make sense to remove. Just remember the ECU reads data from the cat, so there maybe a few (two if I recall correctly) senors that you will have to replace with resistors, or if possible have Nissan reprogram the ECU to run without a cat (1st prize).

Adios
