Am I buying right here??

Post by Blitzpatrollie »

Hi guys,

I'm new on the forum here, and am in the process of buying a Patrol. The one im looking at is here:

http://johannesburg.olx.co.za/nissan-pa ... -539499643

Price is good, and I was offered a good trade in price through executive-toys.co.za.

Heres the thing, I have a 2005 Land Rover Discovery 3 TDV6 SE, with 186000km on. Now im trading it for a 2003 Patrol with (now) 203000km on. How wise is this? I love the patrol, my dad had one in 2001, and I'm a bit gatvol of diesels and the prices of parts. Especially land rover. The landy is in good nick and has given me great service, but I have had to replace things like fuel pumps (both) because of bad diesel.

Thought I've give the 4.8 GRX auto a try.

What you guys think? I am on the right track? I figure what I save on my instalment I have available for petrol (and hopefully cheaper parts!)

I take delivery on Saturday, unless someone on here advises me otherwise :)

Flanks!

Someone on here advises you otherwise?
This is the wrong forum for that!

In short: maintenance - far less that LR.
The only real pain will be the consumption.
But if you include the cost of parts that need replacement on alternative options, then the consumption is not really that bad.

I have both a 2007 disco 3 and 2001 patrol 4500, they are very different suv's my disco has 140k on the clock and yes I have had problems with it over the years, would I get rid of it? Not on your life it is my everyday car and I love driving it would I take it on an overland trip? No chance to many computers and no way of fixing it in the middle of the bush. The patrol is my weekend go away car, I have only had this model for about 3 months and yes I have had to replace a few parts, luckily not parts from Nissan ( they are very expensive) the patrol is expensive to run fuel wise ( almost double the disco) but I would take it through africa tomorrow and be able to fix it if it broke down! The trol also feels bigger than the disco to drive so just take care in the parking lots! Hope this helps!

Sharp, thanks you guys :) Ja I understand the fuel consumption is rof, according to the current owner he averages between 5.5 and 6km/l, and once got 7 on the dot. This is not far different from the Defender Puma I had, so this doesn't worry me too much. I heard of some guys getting 3km/l, now THAT would worry me!

@Alex jeez ja that's the best of both, I love my disco and it is my every day car, but unfortunately its one or the other for me :)

You may get 3km/l if:
a) You pull some weight behind you and like to push the needle to the right of the zero mark.
b) Or else you like to race robots with the Golf GTIs.

If you drive sensibly it won't be that bad!

Cant go wrong with the 4.8,... or Patrol's in general.

You could also be looking at LC 105 EFI,... with the current economic situation okes areflogging them left right and centre,...prob 2/3rds the price they were just the other day on the second hand market.. just a thought,... but of course, Patrol all the way.

Go 4 it, I traded my previous 4.8 for a Disco3 TDV6. Then traded the disco again for a 4.8 Patrol . You will not be sorry and will only pay for services and fuel! I agree the Landy is nice but I prefer my Trol :salute: Geniet hom!
