4.5 valve clearance
Hey guys, need some advice please!
I am adjusting the valve clearance on the Troll and just need some input on the size of the gap. After stripping everything and getting the cover off I ran out of time (moet dit na werk probeer doen!) so now I will have to set the gap when cold. I know the manual says a gap of 0.2mm when cold but I have a feeling that this is when the motor is being re-assembled and just to get it going and then you need to set it again later when hot? I definitely do not want to assemble everything, run the motor and then strip it again!
The gap of 0.2mm just seems a bit too small compared to the gap when hot. Shouldn't the gap become smaller when hot? (Ek moet nog die termodinamika van Troll engines gaan opswot!) Does anyone else have experience with setting the gap cold and what should I set it at to be safe? Wil nie graag nou al valves brand of slaan nie!

Re: 4.5 valve clearance
Thanks Russ
Those are the same clearances as I've got in my manual. Well I've set the clearance and will start up the Troll tonight after contorting myself to change the plugs!
Cheers

Houdini would have even used a few strong words if he had to do that....
Good luck with the start up !!!

Re: 4.5 valve clearance
Cedric I think those Japanese engineers are a bunch of masochists! Changing the no 6 is the worst part of the job!
The start-up was fine but not without a few harsh words!

Re: 4.5 valve clearance
great news johan.
What is the benfit of adjuting the valve clearances and should one do so avery so often? I drive a TD42 (4.2 diesel pickup) with 150 000km on the clock, i am wondering if i need to adjust mine,...what would indicate this?

Re: 4.5 valve clearance
Russ I'm not sure if there are definite intervals at which the clearances need to be set. I just did mine because the rockers were excessively noisy. Which means that the valves are probably not opening as much as they should which could influence performance and maybe durability. Well I'm not a pro but that's my understanding anyway!
