Re: Goedkoop snorkel
Hi Trailerman,
Be very carefull when fitting these cheap stuff. It might work for the first year and then the material starts to crack ext.
Also check inside if it is smooth, it must be otherwise the airflow is not suffient.
I would be reluctant to buy it!!

Re: Goedkoop snorkel
Do not waste your money. At LA Sport Centurion we tried to fit a few of these snorkels with very little sucess. The reason is the template is poor and the design/finishing does not allow it to be fitted to the contours of the car. Also the material used for the connects from the snorkel to the intake system are poor..
Please visit the Safari Snorkel web site, and there you will find the test that where completed.

Re: Goedkoop snorkel
Daai hele toets is in my mening subjektief.
In my opinie moet daai pyp dan tenminste ge-lace wees met goud...
Ek herhaal weer - hierdie is net my opinie in my persoonlike hoedanigheid - niks te doen met my werk nie!!

Re: Goedkoop snorkel
Gerrie, I want to put something in your pipe:
Keeping water out of your engine is only one of the benefits of a good snorkel.
In my opinion, a well-designed snorkel can improve (not massively but still) both torque and fuel consumption, particularly when struggling in deep sand. This is because under certain conditions the air reaching the engine intake is significantly cooler. In my limited tests, up to 25 degrees cooler.
If the snorkel is really smooth inside and the air path is not too tortuous, you can also get a significant ram-air effect at higher speeds, but most commercial snorkels are not designed for this purpose. The area where the snorkel's head is is at significantly higher air pressure than the inside of the wheelwell at 100km/h, and if you can maintain that pressure all the way to the engine air intake, this would almost be like fitting a low-pressure turbo. Unfortunately this is difficult to achieve in practise, but from the above it should be clear that a snorkel that is excessively rough inside can cost you significant power.
Furthermore, i feel about a snorkel the same way I feel about a winch or a satphone: it is an insurance policy. It is not practical to check it every time you are about to use it, but if you need it and it fails to work, it is worse than useless, because the "knowledge" that you have it, lets you do things you would not otherwise do.
The other possible point to consider is after-sales service. I am not saying that the more expensive ones automatically have better after-sales service, I am just saying find out what the supplier's record is in this regard.
While I am not condoning over-charging in any way, you must realize that there are different manufacturing methods and practises that come at different prices.

Re: Goedkoop snorkel
Here all of you. I will however sty with the well known brands. In disagree with the comment of the test being subjective. The pirate has copied the Safari snorkel and thus uses the design as a selling point because it looks like a safari product. If the do this then they should be compared to a Safari Snorkel. If one compares price then one should also compare the construction as well as the material. The test may be subjective, but the Safari Snorkel was also pirated. I will not take a chance with a snorkel, because if can be the cause of a huge failure.
Gents it is not only just about the out side. It's about the sizing for the engine as well as sealing of the dust. No other snorkel on the market has better material in the connection between the snorkel and the filter.
