Welcome Riaan
This new Trollie of yours, I assume it is a Diesel? Is it normally aspirated or turbo'd?

Normally aspirated.
It's also done just over 400k. And still starts first time every time, no smoke at all :)
I looked for a while, and this was probably the one in the best nick.
Only issue I see, is it looks like the gearbox oil is leaking (from the drain plug even...
) so i still need to change oil and fix that. But need the right tools and the correct oil - local midas didn't have stock.

Re: First Post!
Riaan do you mean the drain plug on the gearbox, or the one in the bellhousing?
If it is the one on the gearbox, make sure the breather is not blocked?

Re: First Post!
Erm... Not sure - it's the plug that you see in the service manual? Kinda looks like you put a pretty big alan key in there.
I'm not very mechanically minded - so if you know of any decent patrol mechs in the fourways/randburg area, please pass along some details

Re: First Post!
Riaan this is a Manual gearbox hey?
That sounds like the gearbox drain plug. You use a 1/2"square drive as found on a socket driver (whether strongarm, t-bar or ratchet) directly. If you decide to look at it yourself, the filler plug looks similar but is mounted about 1/2 way up the side of the gearbox above the drain plug. You start by draining the oil. The drain plug should have a magnet on it, that should collect any pieces of steel. If you find shavings, don't worry, that is pretty normal, but if you find chunks you have a problem. Clean the drain and filler plugs. Refit the drain plug with Locktite otherwise it will leak a bit. Then fill the gearbox with new oil until oil starts running out of the filler hole, then you know the level is right. Use loctite on the filler plug as well.
The breather is a small pipe going in to the top of the gearbox, and leads to a higher place so that it doesn't swallow water on deep crossings. On my car it goes into the wheelarch.
Try Graham Cumming, he is near Swartkop AFB. 083 417 7503 or 012 651 3447. If you want to replace the gearbox oil, I recomend you ask him to put in Castrol BOT130M. It is not the cheapest oil on the market, but really works in the 'trol.
