Good morning
I need some advice on my 2004 4.8 Patrol
I replaced the water pump in April 2022 (bought from Nissan dealer) and now after 12000km it is leaking. I haven't removed it yet but it looks like it is leaking through the shaft. The original pump wasn't leaking but was starting to make a noise.
Where can I get a good quality pump to replace this one?
I installed a steel bumper and winch in 2021 and since then my car gets very hot when towing my caravan. The temp will rise up to about 5mm before H on the gauge. It usually happens going up steep hills and sometimes when driving 95km/h or more on a flat road with a headwind. I've replaced the water pump, thermostat, coolant (all from Nissan dealer) and viscous fan oil since but it didn't make any difference. I removed the number plate to see if that would help but it didn't. I removed the spotlights and it helped slightly but temps still rise more than halfway of the gauge. The radiator was replaced in 2019 but I can't remember the brand.
Has anybody else experienced the same issues?
Is there a radiator available that will have better cooling function?
Will it help if I install a switch to switch on the aircon fans without switching on the aircon itself?
I would really appreciate your advice on this.

Re: Water pump and radiator
Unfortunately it seems most Patrols are quite sensitive about things in the air flow before the radiator. And with the tall, narrow radiator on the 4.8, there really isn't anywhere to mount a winch that it won't significantly impact that air flow.
Not sure if this holds true for the 4.8 as well, but on the GQ the Nissan factory radiator is far superior to any of the aftermarket/custom radiators.

Re: Water pump and radiator
I get the same on mine. Also have a steel bumper , spot lights and winch. Still the stock standard radiator, but I get it when I do slow driving with lots of stops and starts (which makes sense)johanp wrote: ↑27 Mar 2023 10:58 Good morning

Re: Water pump and radiator
Those vertical trimmings (splash guards) inside the wheel arches....especialy if you have a raised suspension. If they are not there, or not whole, pressure builds up from there in the egine bay and limits air flow from the front through the radiator. Took me a year of fiddling to find the problem.
