Steering Knock

Post by Unkredible »

Hi All,
I have a strange knocking sound originating from the front wheels, particularly when reversing and turning / when turning the steering wheel whilst going slowly. Wheel bearings seem ok, have checked wheel nuts, and can't find anything loose with tie rods etc. I am thinking it may be Kingpin bearings that are stuffed...
Who is the go to "Expert" in Gauteng who can diagnose and repair this?
Thanks
Bruce

I would take it to Ant or Michael. Ant is probably closer to you.

R5-00 bet it's the auto locking hubs messing around. Half-hour job to open and modify it. Quick permanent fix

I dont think so - not necessarily happening at full lock. I suspect it could be the Auto Locking hubs playing up or something like that...

knock on both wheels, or one side , left and right turn or only one side, while standing or moving , if sound from right - can it be from play somewhere steering wheel shaft .

Can easily be the radius arm bushes. They click/clack if they worn when turning slowly, and reversing too, as they load/unload. check them for wear.

Been playing around with it. Knocking while stationary too. Will put it up on axle stands again and do more digging...

get a pry-bar onto all those links (control arms, drag link, tie road, panhard rod, etc etc) and work them to see if there's play or wear.
