At the start of this forum there were only a couple of us who backed the diesel option namely Greg , Cedric , Christo and myself . More than once we were told the 4.2 could not be turbo'd successfully and the 4.5 / 4.8 was the better option. Now I see the biggest grandstander is now a dark side lover
What caused the change ? Must have been the fact that real trucks don't have spark plugs

Grant!
Long time no seen!
Real trucks also don't use 50ppm and below, but rather KFC and Nandos chip oil.
So you know I have an SD33, in line pump and all. Its even more truck like than a TD42.
But as much as I like smoking away after dropping off my embarrassed teenagers at school,
I still absolutely love motoring up a long hill in my TB48, and only having to watch the fuel gauge.
haha.... yeah.. Each have their merits for sure Alex, but there is nothing better than doing community service when driving a diesel running on "KFC and Nandos chip oil". When we do a heavy footed pull off from the robots, the beggars don't squander there collected monies on drugs and crap, but rather on food.... nobody can control the hunger urge of a lekker bio diesel ....
Me and mister connan changed over because
Running a 4.8 as a daily was just to much . Mr steyn gets the diesels to perform properly . I like the idea of one wire motor ....would love thys to build me a 4.8 turbo but for now i drive 2 td42t makes 150kw and 500nm on the wheels is my daily work horse and gives me 8 ave on feul...as long as there is no ecu iam happy
What happened not being able too turbo a Patrol successfully. Must be the SAC dyno that gets them running sweet. That's how I got mine to run so well and Dirk is still enjoying it.
Alex, all well and touring with my Companion Caravan that is now kitted. Far easier towing and you have all the comforts' . Miss the Patrol but the Ford Ranger with some bits from Gerhard before he left for NZ has made it a beast. 180 kW and 600 Nm. Uni Chip ++ with 4 programs so I can select from fuel economy, to full power or std and then one for towing which ups the torque.
Did a trip in Bots with a group only using caravans and was a dream,
