I apologise! I owe you some pictures. I totally forgot until this morning when I read this post again.

The disadvantage with this is that it is not removable and one has to move the vehicle all the time. The best place to have put a removable panel would have been to slide it under the Howling Moon RTT, but that space is already taken by the table. If I move the table, I have nowhere to put it, it is just too long (130cm) to fit anywhere else. A smaller table just will not do.

I am planning to get the fold up solar panel from 4x4 Direct to solve my solar power issues. I need just a bit extra than what the 140a panel delivers.

No worries at all, I havent got around to looking at my roof rack yet. I'm actually thinking about removing this rack as well as the awning and buying a front runner one or something similar. The current combo is very heavy as its mild steel and my folding solar panels are also quite heavy. I think the weight is up high is making the car sway uncomfortably on rough roads. But thanks very much for sending the pics I would like them to be mounted on the roof and then find a way to be able to change the angle of the panels without having to move the car to do it....

What about mounting it in "slide brackets", similar to the way people mount tables under their roof racks?

See the last half of the second last paragraph.

I could not put it sideways under the small front mounted roof rack as that is only 1m long and the legs are 500mm apart. The current panel is 1.2m side to side and 700mm front to back. It is too heavy to remove over the bonnet, that will just be looking for an accident to happen, possibly writing off the panel and requiring panel beating to the bonnet.

I would suggest that it MUST BE REMOVABLE. As mentioned, otherwise you have to move the car to keep moving so it can be in full sun all day long.

Thank you for that. Yes you are correct.. That would be a lot more practical if you do not already carry a table in that space.

I seriously looked at raising my RTT to fit both under the tent, but in my case that would have caused other issues including not being able to fit into the car port and added wind resistance when driving. The deciding reason was however was the difficulty of opening and closing the tent at the extra height.

Hope you are all keeping well at the current times in SA.

So for a few weeks now I've been busy with a drawer system to accommodate a fridge and then also a aux battery in the rear (previously posted). While I was at it I mounted my compressor, replaced the std door cards with checkered plate (vastrap) and a table on the large rear door.

Here is the end result. Just need to varnish and mount the wooden deck for the fridge slide on the left. Then the task of wiring up the compressor and aux battery and the associated split charger and plugs ect.
