wow....... another year has passed and nothing really has changed on my vehicle besides a new set of rims, 11mm fuel pump (think I installed this one in 2018) and....... well thats about it

But I thought while there is a bit more time available I might just do a couple of engine mods that I have been planning to do for a while now.
In January I removed the very big front mount intercooler and replaved it with a 500x230x65 cooler and mounted it between the chassie legs to open up the radiator. This made a massive change to the water temp and I must have gained about 10 deg under load.

Next I want to install a Sojo intake manifold to see if there are any gains in power and maybe a bit lower EGT's.
But first I had to take it to the dyno for a run so we have a reference point.

I also want to test if there are any gains in power with a lift pump installed so depending on when the manifold will be ready for collection I might have the lift pump done first.

So here is the starting point for this excersize.
Power is 133kw and torque is 512Nm
This is measured at SAC Centurion, its measured at the wheels and its the same dyno I use for all my dyno's. So its something that will stay constant.

The lower power curve is a dyno run I did in 2017 with a maxed out 10mm pump. I think I was running around 0.8 or 1bar boost then and running 1.4 bar now

Interesting find, the 10mm pump made more power at 4,000rm than my current 11mm, but we will be investigating that a bit later. It might be the governer set too low.

Lets start with the lift pump test.
Firstly, at the diesel shops they do the pump callibrations with a 0.2bar positive fuel supply and this is not something we have on the Patrols.
Measuring the fuel line pressure just before the filter I saw a constant -0,2bar fuel pressure which might be something that has a negative impact on the power delivery.

Aparantly the guys in Australia recomend giving your pump a positive fuel supply of 6psi when doing some power mods.
Theory is that if you start running on a negative fuel supply, the pump's internal pressure runs lower at high rpm and also you loose out on some timing advance.

I did install a Facet pump and measured the preasure on the fuel line. On idle it sits with a 0,2bar fuel pressure and falls to 0bar at 2,000rpm. Higher rpm it falls to around -0,1bar which still is not ideal. So I will be testing different pumos till I find something that can maintain a positive fuel supply and take it for another dyno run.

Stay tuned
