Drove to Michael from Ant with no bumper on temps were atleast 3 to 4 degrees lower so airflow plays a huge roll.

Yip! Once my diesel's bumper was chopped I also saw a 3-5degC drop in temps.

I will say that Peter has covered about most of what I wanted to say. I have spent hundreds of hours on the cooling systems of both GU and GQ and there is n big gap between the water temps between the two.
Dawie on the forum had endless drama with his GU running hot and we solved his by just moving his intercooler to a better spot and opening up the radiator.
I have seen zero gain in installing a 115L/h inline water pump, bigger radiators, thicker radiators other thermostats or even new viscus couplings with high flow fan blades.
The number 1 thing was airflow over the radiator. That and a good tune is all you need and they run hand in hand.
If you want to spend some time, do the effort and seal off the air gaps on the side of your cooler to make sure that what ever airflow you get coming in, has toe go through the radiator and not around it.
Like Peter mentioned, the GQ is really cramped behind the grille and the air struggles to do the job it should do.
I would say a top mount cooler on a GQ would be 1st prize where on a GU you can install a feont mount cooler with less of a drawback

On my 2000 4.2 I found that those closures between the wheel arches and the engine bay makes a noticable difference. If not fitted the Patrol runs hotter on long up hills during very hot days. It is also possible that they became important with my 2" lift as more air pressure can develop around the top of the wheels when suspension is higher. This could cause engine bay air pressure therefore restricting air flow through radiator.

Yes, I really wish I could spend a couple of days fiddling in a wind tunnel, experimenting with all this stuff.
Those flaps certainly do make a difference. I am not sure why. I had always assumed the pressure in the wheel arch area was actually lower, and that this means that the air actually escapes out there, instead of flowing around the rear of the engine and taking heat out there. I have certainly noticed that when those aren't there, my car's floor around the transmission tunnel gets hotter.

Dirk, the top of my bumper is pretty much level with the bottom of the radiator, so maybe a little bit, but not much.

Soos Pieter gese het, n wind tonnel sou idiaal gewees het om presies te kan sien wat gebeur met die wind.
The thing is the vehicles are not "over heating", but on the Madman its very easy to see exactly what is happening. On the gauge all looks very nice, but the neesle only really starts lifting around 100deg.

Wat van "bonnet venting" of so iets...
Sit spacer aan agter kant van bonnet by die firewall wat gap maak om lug deur te laat gaan?
Ek sien op River Trip as stadig ry maak party ouens bonnet oop voor om koeler te loop so net teenoorgestelde maar vir as jy vinnig ry....
Vraag:
Wat is die doel van scoops op n bonnet waarvan die gat na die venster toe wys?

Dirk net so baie moets en moenies maar as jy onder 60km per uur ry is jou viskus serpose om die werk te doen ....scoops is gewoonlik vir intercoolers .
