TD42TI MOTOR 6x EGT + 6X CHT MONITOR
Howzit Guys
Been a bit slack with posting so decided to show you guys a project I've been busy with but not yet completed
taking inspiration from the aviation industry I decided to fit a MGL Avionics blaze TC-6 monitor which has 12 chanels
6x EGT probes(6 drilled and tapped holes in the exhaust manifold)
https://www.mglavionics.co.za/blaze.html
6x CHT ring probes that "would" be fitted to the glowplugs and let me know if glowplugs are doing there job as well as give me an idea of the 6 cylinder head temperatures
So after calling and speaking to the MGL tech old boy I was amazed at how much knowledge I had gained from our conversation
In particular the joining/extending of probe wires and how doing it wrong can give false readings
after chatting to him I have decided to maybe use the 6x CHT to measure 6 other temperature parameters eg: coolant/oil/turbo etc ( any ideas welcome)
Reason for this Being that EGT and CHT are very closely linked and that your EGT for concerns would show up way sooner than CHT
...part of me just wants this to understand a bit more about how hot each cylinder runs and how this mite be corrected VIA intake design and air flow distribution....
And the other part of me just wants some gadgets to keep me from getting bored on long drives :)
My main reason is early warning detection and damage prevention

These were the k type probes I bought via eBay
Note: the length is important to clear the heat shield

Note: the exact location of 6 the exhaust manifold probes when fitted must not interfere with the manifold studs
Also remember to check the path of exhaust gas on #3 #4 exhaust port with a piece of wire before it's not as it seems if I recall corectly

I have seen similar K-type probes at Communica at under R100 each but they have no easy way for a display. The guy was talking about a Rasperry Pi and soldering and coding and and and...not my cup of tea.
Anyone has an alternative for a display?
Sorry Fishlung, not to highjack you very informative thread.

Re: TD42TI MOTOR 6x EGT + 6X CHT MONITOR
I have the old MGL EGT & CHT gauge. I have a pre turbo and a post turbo probe so if one fails I can still monitor my EGT's

Re: TD42TI MOTOR 6x EGT + 6X CHT MONITOR
When cruising on the highway there is about 80 - 100 deg C difference between pre and post turbo readings.... quite remarkable actually
