Steering wheel controls (audio, cruise)
Hi All
My steering wheel controls have never worked since owning the vehicle, audio sound only goes down when you push volume up and down, the rest do nothing. Cruise control buttons do nothing. I was told it could be due to wear and tear of wires in a ribbon in the steering wheel (perhaps they were referring to the clockspring?). I'm a bit hesitant to fiddle around where there's an airbag, so can anyone advise whether opening the steering wheel is "easy as" or is it a job best left for the experts.

Clock Spring repair
I tried to find Anthony's post, however above is the thread where I described my clock spring repair in probably not as much detail.

Re: Steering wheel controls (audio, cruise)
It might not be the clock spring, It might just be the plugs that are unplugged . It is a bit of a job to get in there and you are correct , working with the airbag must be done with great caution. The airbag comes out of the steering wheel with two stupid security torx screws (I think they are 8mm) and you have to remove it to get to the plugs.

Dagse almal. How does the SA price for a clockspring compare to the price here in Oz? If it's way cheaper I'll pick one up here and if not require (as per Anthony, maybe/hopefully just plugs...), will post for sale. Back in SA mid December.

Re: Steering wheel controls (audio, cruise)
So uiteindelik maak ek tyd om die clockspring storie uit te sort, maar kyk wat het iemand aan die een torx skroef gedoen! Heeltemal gestrip, selfs die buitekant is verniel. Naaste dorp is Plett, hopelik is daar n ingenieurs shop, want ek sal huis toe ry oor n week met cruise control:)
