Re: Stuck!!
Eish Ruan, Can I buy that lovely un-used spade mounted on the roof rack?
I should be up in Swakop within the next 2 months maybe sooner - will get together for a drink somewhere? Tiger reef if open, Desert tavern etc?
Any other Trolls guys there?
Not sure which 4x4 I will have with me - if I do the Duine trip on the way then it will be the Troll, but will be in a 4x4

Re: Stuck!!
Was merrily slowly cruising along the top of a narrow dune at AD with FAC when the edge collapsed and I dropped sideways - it doesn't look as bad as it actually was,
I was going to try drive down the dune with steering full lock to left but the guys said if the back slips any more before I get momentum I can roll it
Only time I've needed a tow in the Troll and it took a 2 other 4x4's to get me back up that dune face.

Re: Stuck!!
Me thinks that they where thinking of other brands of 4X4 that might roll. That Troll is not even at half the angle that it can go to. They didn't take into account the amount of pig iron low down that gives it a roll angle of 47 degTunja wrote: ↑03 Jul 2019 02:59 Was merrily slowly cruising along the top of a narrow dune at AD with FAC when the edge collapsed and I dropped sideways - it doesn't look as bad as it actually was,

That spade has never been used in anger on the Patrol - but on numerous other vehicles. I made it myself - a diff is rather deep under a car in hot sand with a short shovel. That one is about 1.6m tall.
With regards to my stuck photo - I actually made it over the 1st time...bit then the FJ guy said I couldn't do it in reverse...and a lack of momentum (too nonchalant) got me beached.
Yes, pm me your number - I might be going to RSA in August. But we can see how things go.
That stuck photo of yours is enough to send chills down your spine. The photo doesn't do it justice...teetering over the edge like that

Re: Stuck!!
First outing I had with the patrol and I did not turn quickly enough and ended up front and rear high on the sand. Discovered that the winch did not work shortly after getting stuck. It took a serious pull to get the front straight and nothing but a kitted jeep could even get to me.
Luckily it still had GP plates so I pleaded ignorance to dune driving. Kaapies are always willing to help out a stuck Vaalie!!!
