Taking furthest point to do the planning as it tend to make up for the unforseen...

See my "thinking" below and then please lets discuss, there might probably be better options?

Home to border is 500km and 6 hours Travel (Before Martins Drift you get Big Fig Inn - very nice stop over should one want to leave on Thursday...)
Border to Elephant Sands is 550km and 6 hours travel
Border to Senyati lodge is 780km and 10hours travel

I do not forsee anybody willing to travel for 16 hours to make it a straight trip through to Senyati???

Friday 14 June Traveling from Home to first nigh sleep over at Elephant Sands - 12 hours travel and 1050km [Fuel, Border cost P120, Camping at Elephant Sands P100pp]
Does anybody know of a nice spot before Elephant Sands to camp?
Saturday 15 June Travel from Elephant Sand to Senyati Lodge - 3hours travel and 250km [Fuel, Camping at Senyati Lodge P200 pp]
Sunday 16 June Travel from Senyati to Chobe (Ihaha) retun game drive, Evening bout trip on the Chobe - 7 hours travel an 110km [Fuel, entrance Chobe P120 pp and vehicle P50), boat trip P190 pp Camping at Senyati Lodge P200 pp]
Monday 17 June Travel from Senyati Lodge to Elephant Sands via Hunter Road - 8 hours and 260km [Fuel, camping and Elephant Sands P100 pp]
Teusday 18 June Travel from Elephant Sands to Home - 12 hours travel and 1050km [Fuel]

Distance to travel = 2720km so work on 3000km
Border fees P120
Camping at Elephant Sands 2x P100 pp
Camping at Senyati Lodge 2x P200 pp
Chobe entrance P120 pp
Chobe Vehicle P50
Boat trip P190 pp

So for a single person doing the trip

Fuel = (3000 /6 = 500L x R10L) = R5000 - work at as per your consumption and fuel cost
Border fees = (P120 x 1.35) = R162
Camping at Elephant sand = (2x P100 = P200 x 1.35) = R270
Camping at senyati Lodge = (2x P200 = P400 x 1.35) = R540
Chobe entrance = (P120 x 1.35) = R165
Chobe Vehicle = (P50 x 1.35) = R68
Boat trip = (P190 x 1.35) = R257

Total R6,462 excluding food and drink

Hi guys. Just got the following information...

"The person to contact about that (hunters road) is Ben Moller from elaphant sands aparently if you stay with them one night he radios BDF and clears you for that day"

From one of my fathers contacts regarding the road. Might be worth while contacting elephant sands to confirm

Ok guys here is an update. I got in touch with Elephant sands regarding the use of the hunters road and got the following email response:

"Good morning,

I trust all is well.

We can assist you with booking accomodation for the dates you requested for.

Please contact 00267- 6240018. This is the number for the Wildlife Department and they are the ones who will have more information about the usage of the old Hunters Road.

I am not holding space at this stage. Please advise if you want me to book accomodation for you.

I hope to hear from you soon and have a great day.

Kind regards

Dudu"

I then called the number and eventually when someone answered the phone they told me that it is fine to drive the road but they didnt sound all that interested in my questions and was very vague... couldnt clearly answer me when I asked about BDF either... I think that maybe the person might not have understood me well enough. Couldnt get a name either.

The number is above if anyone wants to try thier luck also. I will try again tomorrow. But basically I'm not happy with the answers I got an I think it would be best to keep trying until we get someone who sounds like they know what they are talking about...

Hello everyone

June isn't too far away and I know that everyone is focusing on the up comming river trip by I just want to update you on the recent info I have on the Hunters road so that plans can be made/changed if needed.

I phoned parks and wildlife again this morning. They told me that the BDF should not be a problem on the road and that they have had tourists pass the wildlife camp on the road this year already HOWEVER, they have had several reports that there are lots of elephants on the road near pandamutenga and that they have made some sections of the road impassable because they have pushed over a lot of trees into to the road. Not sure if this will stil be a problem by the time the forum wants to go. So basic all I seems that tourists are still aloud to drive the road but it might take longer due to elephant damage and you might spend a lot of time clearing trees unless parks and wildlife or the BDF clear it between now and June...

If you would like more info on the road then elephant sands and parks and wildlife are the people to call. You will see the phone number for parks and wildlife in my last post.

Lastly I have to pull out from the trip because we now have a full camp booked in here and there is no one to cover for us to be able to take leave   super unhappy about that but its life I guess.

Anyway if you need more info im still happy to help from this side

Cheers
