The fortuna was lightly loaded and the driver was very careful. The work bakkie drivers less so.
No idea what happened to the GQ. It looked like an animal impact...

Trip Report Kaokoland Part3
After Leaving the Okarohombo Community Camp we bid the seagulls (fly in and make a lot of noise and fly out) a farewell
The Marienfluss Valley is just one of my favourite places in earth. And the French tourists... each one praying we were not camping at the same place they were that night Oh... and thier is diesel and petrol available in the Marienfluss It is at the Southern end of the valley.
We went over the REDDrum Jan Joubert pass. There were a number of the lone stone men of the Kaokoland here. They are statues put up randomly by an artist. i did not see any. They are either been taken or collapsed. We found on near oropembe that had collapsed through weathering.
Past Oropembe we ducked into a river valley short cutting to the Hoarusib River. We camped in the river that night. I woke up in the night and thought I was under aceiling such were the density of stars... truly amazing when you see that.
And tackled the Marienfluss up to Red drum. This time we had time to relax and take in the sights

Wow...that photo of that grey rock with the lines ( 3rd pic from the bottom) is a very interesting looking rock..... Mr Boegman !!!!..... kom nou, look at this pic and give us some info about it.
That rock looks almost out of place there, compared to the surrounding rocks, almost like it was bumped there (......hahahaha... by the aliens )

Graham
You must really love that part of the world, as I think it is you second drive down van Zyls.
We were there two years ago, but seeing this report, really makes me want to go again.

It is a folded Marble. Any you are very correct in that it does not belong there. It has been washed a few hundred meters down the valley.ricster wrote: ↑27 Nov 2018 12:30 Wow...that photo of that grey rock with the lines ( 3rd pic from the bottom) is a very interesting looking rock..... Having a geologist leading a convoy means we often screech to a halt and everyone is looking for the giraffe or elephant and out I jump with my hammer to look at rocks

Re: Trip Report Kaokoland Part1
Ahhhh.... That is fantastic. I usually ask Christo Boegman to give me info on rocks when we have been out on a 4x4 trip. Sometimes some of the beautiful things aren't even alive....hahaha.
Can you tell us more about that rock? Must have had a HUGE amount of water to move it anywhere, and looks well worn. Sand/wind erosion or from the water?
