Ja....regular injector checks would be money well spent for all us oil burners out there. I had the tips on mine replaced and the spray patterns calibrated a few months back at Constantiaberg Diesel here in the Cape. It cost about R1800, which is a lot cheaper than a rebuild!!!Well worth doing every 60 - 80k kms IMHO for piece of mind.

New injector tips are the best "perfomance" upgrade for the money...lol

My truck felt like new when I had my injector tips done!

I spoke yesterday with a diesel mechanic and purported Patrol guru who insisted that no diesel engine has injectors. :oldtimer:

ha ha.... and we wonder why there are cars breaking down so often.... if thats what the mechanic says... :helpsign:

We haven't had internet and e-mail at the office for a few days, and surfing the net was not high priority in the evenings...as the maiden needes to be completed.....soon....

I just have the alternator and power steering to fit on the motor. The radiator and pipes needs to be fitted, and the pipes to the external oil cooler, the EGT probes, and intercooler. Chuck in some oil......prime the pump...... and with a bit of luck, VA VA VROOOOOOOOOM !!!!!!

I hope to finish it tonight, but I must tell you..... ek is $%(^))&%%$#&)_ +* moeg !!!!...... wow... new respect for motor mechanics.... the ones that actually know what they are doing !!!

When things calm down to a mild panic here, I'll post the pics and stuff of the rebuild !!!

According to this dude, a diesel pump shoots fuel directly into the cylinders without the aid of injectors.

At first I thought the problem might be in the nomenclature of the parts, as we were speaking Russian. But when I asked for clarification, the mechanic really was convinced that no diesel engine has "injectors," as the term is used in Russian or in English.

Anyway, Ricster, sorry if I am hijacking your thread.

Ha ha ... no problem ... personally I'd change mechanics..... Ask him if the turbo helps pump fuel into the diesel pump.... :rolling:

Let me tell you about sheer FRUSTRATION !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was all excited last night. I connected up the EGT Probes, sprayed the oil on the CRD foam air filter, primed the diesel pump.... although not 100 %.... and proceeded to start the maiden.

she coughed and spluttered, and coughed some more..... then started, very rough, probably due to air in the diesel lines to the injectors..... BUT.... the oil light on the dash did not want to go out..... even after 15 seconds of idling !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Again thanks to Frans!!! In a panic I phoned him, and after a good few phone calls, and trying various things, I back fed oil into the block that runs back to the oil pump. The theory was that the oil pump gears were dry from cleaning everything on the motor. With dry gears on the pump there will be no way for the pump to suck the oil up and pump it through the system.

At 23H35 last night.... highly the bliksem in, and after putting everything back where I fed oil in, I turned the key on the maiden and again she coughed and spluttered, and coughed some more..... then started, still very rough, and guess what...... THE OIL LIGHT WENT OFF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ..... and about 3 seconds later the engine died, due to the rough idling. I tried to start up again.... and then the battery said ..... enough is enough.... and now the battery is flat.... so I now need to jump the battery!!!..... but at least the oil light went out !!!!

Frans, I thank you again.... and I didnt call you at 23h35 to tell you the good and bad news, as I thought If I keep phoning you, you will never get your roof rack fitted ....

Tonight I start the Maiden.... any tips on bleeding the diesel pump properly?

Till the next exciting episode........
Regards
