No sound over speakers

Post by Francois Theron »

I have a very strange fault on my 4.8 Y61. The radio works 100% when speakers are connected to the plug at the back of the radio but no sound over the speakers when connected to the speakers in the vehicle. So there must be a problem further down the loom. All 4 speakers dead, not even a scratch or crackle!

Any idea from anyone pleae?

Is there perhaps a controller of some sorts or some other connection block or connector somewhere down the line on the way to the speakers?

Maybe they are muted by the button on the steering wheel

If I understand correctly, you mean, if you pull the radio out and connect a speaker directly to the back of the radio, the speaker works, but, the speakers in the doors dont work?

I have a slightly similar problem, my speakers work very intermittently, actually, only the tweeters in the dash, and the one rear left, the others are always dead. Must be a break/damage in the cables somewhere between the radio and the speakers.

ive just never built up the energy to re-run cables. I do need to get it sorted though!

No steering controls. Exactly as you describe Graham except that everything is dead

Francois, is there any possibility somebody in the past connected the speakers to an amp, and then removed it?

But I suspect yoh may have to trace the wiring...

Before you trace the wiring, remove one of the door panels and test with another speaker.
Both speakers on the driver side of my car stopped working and it was the speakers, not the wiring.

I am still busy sorting but it would appear as if it is indeed the speakers giving up

I can recommend Kicker Split System speakers, and if your radio can take a sub, a Kicker Slimline Sub works great... :blonde: :deathmetal:
