Hmmmmmmm.....Hmmmmmmmmm ... You are going to love 'em.
When you get the sub, you will be blown away. Since this thread came up again I have been fiddling with different settings for the sub on the head unit, and its incredible how nice and full the sound is even at low volumes.
I put some sound deadening material ( same stuff they fit between dry walling )along the bottom of the door to maximize the sound quality. It will still allow any water ingress to leak out the little holes at the bottom of the door, and is also non absorbing.

Mind sharing the name of the material you used?
I've found about 8m of audio cable lying around, so I'm planning to use it, provided I can replace the existing speaker wires in the loom.

Re: 1998 GRX stock speakers?
I had a few meters of this at home....
http://www.isotherm.co.za/isotherm/walls/
Give them a call and ask them if they maybe have an offcut 1m piece of 1.2m (std) wide. Then cut it into 4 off 300mm wide pieces and fit into the bottom of the 4 doors. You can trim it down as per necessary to miss the window winding works etc.
My speaker wires are not in the loom from when I bought the Patrol, but are lying in the rubber sleeve that's between the door and the body.

You Guys don't understand how helpful this Thread is to me...…….I'd also like to replace my radio and speakers with new ones this week, they're very very blurry (that's putting it mildly)

riscter……….ricster wrote: ↑04 Mar 2015 08:57 Mine is a GL model, and I fitted Kicker 60W RMS(nominal) split system ( http://www.kicker.com/11DS62 ). If I recall, I ffitted 6" front and rear, but I believe the 6.5" will fit too. There is a black plastic dish that the speaker fits into and If I recall there was a little space when I fitted the 6" in mine. If anything you might need to file the plastic a fraction to get the speaker to seat 100%, BUT I may be wrong on this.
Check this.... http://www.4wdadventurers.com/showthrea ... Re-Fitting
I can recommend the Kicker DS series speakers, and Christo ( Chuck Norris ) told me to spend a few Rands extra and rather take these Kicker speakers. He is an audio guru and a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to sound quality, and I must say that these speakers are phenomenal. I am just running them off the head unit, ok it is a very good Pioneer head unit, and they play clear even at high volume ( Iron Maiden cannot be played softly ). I also have a Kicker Hideaway subwoofer ( http://www.kicker.com/11HS8 ) that connects to the RCA outputs of the headunit. This combination is amazing !!! The sub may not look very big....but boy oh boy it adds a dimension to the sound quality that is amazing !! I have this sub loosely sitting under my seat. I may even get another one and fit under the wife"s seat....
1) How is the Kicker "DS" Series??
2) Would Kicker tweeters fit into the existing GRX tweeter enclosures, without modifications?? I want an OE look, NO cutting
THANKS

Ricster sorry, meant the Kicker "CS", not the DS, that you have.

Re: 1998 GRX stock speakers?
Hmm... good question. My Patrol is the pre-facelift and doesn't have any place for the tweeters to fit into as a OEM look.
I fitted mime on the hard plastic near the top of the doors next to the door handles. I'd have to take a photo tonight when I get home, but I know that is not the look you are wanting to go for. The problem with a coaxial speaker ( tweeter fixed onto the main speaker) is that because it is fitted so low to the floor you will loose a lot of the sound clarity the tweeter delivers when higher up. I'm not sure what the solution is.

Re: 1998 GRX stock speakers?
Thanks ricster.
My OE tweeter "spaces" look OK, like in big enough. Hope so, otherwise I'll just keep on using the existing tweeters (yuk), but rather that than cutting.
