VG30 "PATROL" Bakkies... REALLY?

Post by hugejp »

Howzit boys...

This is something that has always bothered me...

Was this an attempt by Nissan SA to upgrade the profile of these bakkies (VG30 & 2.4l) by using the "PATROL" badge??

At the risk of stepping on a few toes, these have never been a real PATROL for me. I've always seen this as a Hardbody.

Any thoughts?

Nothing on those had any link to Patrol. Was a lame marketing gimmick.

I had the 4x4 3.0L V6 in the early 90's

That engine was so wrong for a work horse. For example it only had 3L oil in the sump !

After the second blow up I sold it back to Nissan...

The 2.4 was yster.

I've wondered about this fact for many a year myself.

My dad owned the 2.4 Petrol Patrol hard body in single cab guise when i was in high school. It was a carb but my dad changed it to fuel injection.
I must admit, we worked that truck hard in the transkei ,weekly, and never once did it have any mechanical or electrical issues, ever. it was smooth as silk and felt like it would climb a brick wall.

The differences appeared to be the use of Coil-over shock (Retrofitted by Nissan SA) with its own shoock hoop, in addition to the standard torsion bar. not sure if there was any difference in the rear spring setup, i cant remember, but the front definitely wasn't standard hardbody.

I missed that vehicle when he sold it on.

I have no doubt they were good as a hardbody.

I must admit to being very dissapointed years back, I was starting the search for my first Patrol & put the word out. A freind of a friend called me to come view his "Patrol" bakkie that was for sale & when I arrived I had to act as if it was great... :rolling:

I have ever since then held a grudge

Daar staan "Patrol" agterop.
