I have used a hi-lift literally hundreds of times without incident. However, I wouldn't generally use it to change a tyre.

The travel on the patrol suspension means that if you use a hi-lift you have to jack it to a height which makes it (the Jack and jacked vehicle) unstable.

The nissan Jack is great.

I carry both - The hi-lift for recovery and since I got iNyathi WITHOUT his bottle jack, I bought a 10-Ton bottle jack and that is for changing wheels. Together with two fold-up "bokkies" [trestles].
Ek onner n moter inkruip wat net op n hi-lift hang ?? Gmmff nevaaaah :oldtimer: :oldtimer:

I have tried to push the jack over / try to push the vehicle of the jack in this position: http://patrol4x4.co.za/download/file.php?id=15803
But was not able to. decent jacking points makes a moer of a difference wrt safety when using a hilift jack.
(the jack got stuck due to dust/debris, and did not want to lower. Few squirts of q20 fixed it...)
I also always put a piece of rubber/foam mat under the hilift to prevent it from slipping.

I have changed a lot of tyres on my patrols, swapped tyres, swapped wheels, rotate wheels etc. I always use the hilift jack. When used correctly it is perfectly safe.
I did however invest in axle stands to use in conjunction with the hilift..

You should get under with any jack unless you have axle stands... :oldtimer:
