Dakar 2014

Post by miner »

I see there is a lone Patrol Y61 3.0 D GL running.

As I understand its unmodified, it seems to be up against a group of Toyotas !!

Currently after stage 3 in 57th place overall

I think it is actualy a 4.8, as it is competing in class T2.1 (Petrol Cross Country Production Vehicles) and I can't see the characteristic 3.0 bonnet scoop in any pictures of it. It is the only vehicle in this class and is sort of in the middle of the bunch of T2.2 vehicles (Diesel Cross Country Production Vehicles) according to the latest available standings.

I also see its competing as a T2 class 1 which would mean its a petrol version and in the results that's where it is shown.

However if you go to competitor info and click on the picture of the Patrol it says its a 3.0 diesel tuned by Tecnosport SPA http://www.dakar.com/dakar/2014/us/rider/413.html

Anyway they had a good day yesterday and finished 35th for the stage which means they are now 43rd overall with 4 stages left

Yes, but I think the info on the official Dakar site is incorrect. If one looks at photographs of the actual vehicle competing in this year's event, then there is no evidence of the characteristic ZD30 bonnet air scoop, so I am pretty sure it is a 4.8. Some pictures can be found here:

http://www.maindruphoto.com/fr/photos/d ... denis.html

There are only nine T2 class contenders left. Interestingly the leading T2 car (Jun Mitsuhashi's diesel powered Land Cruiser 200) is kicking some serious T1 contenders' behinds at the moment and was in overall 22ns position yesterday.

Hulle is inderdaad nie skaam met daar die pryse vir foto's nie, maar miskien sou ons dit ook betaal het as ons deelgeneem het en 'n aandenking wou hê?
