Looking for my first Patrol up to 100k
Looking for a Patrol between 80 and 100k, looking for a 4.2, 4.5 or 4.8 as standard as possible with a tow bar as i will mostly be using the vehicle to tow my boat and for fishing. I would preferably like one from the Western Cape and with as little rust as possible.

Re: Looking for my first Patrol up to 100k
I think for that kind of money you will have to look at at something like the Safari 2.8 from the 80s or if you are lucky a GQ 4.2 from the 90s.
You probably will not find a decent Y61 4.5 or a Y61 4.2D, but you WILL NOT find a going 4.8 for that money. A wreck, maybe.
Sorry to be a bearer of bad news.

Re: Looking for my first Patrol up to 100k
With that budget youre looking at the 4.2 (petrol) GQ models, and (very) high mileage 4.5 GU.
You wont find a 4.2 diesel, cos I will have found it before you
GQs seem to pop up quite a bit on gumtree etc, Im sure you'll find the right one with enough persistence.
Maybe the other guys can advise on towing with a GQ, but, from my GQ ownership (I never towed), I dont think I would want to put myself through that kind of torture.

Re: Looking for my first Patrol up to 100k
Thanks guys, I do not have very far to tow, my main launch spot is 10km away and the furtherest i would use it is about 30km away so the towing fuel consumption would not be too much of a issue.
Ive found a very neat 2002 model 4.5 with under 200 000km for 120k close by which seems to be a really good deal.
What would be general things to look out for other than the obvious wear and tear?

Re: Looking for my first Patrol up to 100k
I think that 4.5 in the gumtree ad looks very good (the one for R120k).
But, check out the link SJC put above here, I said it once and will say it again, not sure why that one hasnt sold yet!
In terms of things to look out for, nothing actually. Its a Patrol
Check that the difflock works, the switch or actuator can sometimes bomb out.

I have a neat 4.5 auto with lots of practical extras, including an Old Man Emu suspension, snorkel, towbar, ARB bullbat, canvass seat covers and BFG tyres well within your budget range, plus I'm just around the corner from you in Struisbaai. The vehicle is ex Joburg, so it has no rust.

Re: Looking for my first Patrol up to 100k
I bought an ‘06 Y61 4.8 GRX with 220k kms about a month ago. Has a winch, roof rack, Rancho shocks, and rooftop tent. Paid R120k all in, and car is in excellent condition, garage kept, no accidents, and full service histroy only from Nissan.
If you’re patient the right ones do pop up. Its been a dream vehicle to own and the last month has reconfirmed that dream. This thing is a tank.

Fanus, keep posting that link... and one of these days I'll take it off your hands. (Just need the cash on hand.) I actually thought it was sold already, but then 3 weeks ago I waived to a lady in Sabie (your wife methinks never having actually met her) driving a Patrol just like that one. (This can be turbo No. 2 )
May the road be long.. and dirty.
