Are we sure a 4.8 will be ok with this trip? Would prefer to not drown it!

Then on the fuel, I know I could probably search, but Im just going to ask - do the 4.8 guys carry any extra jerry cans for this trip?

Graham I have done 6 river trips and to date we have not drowned a vehicle because of the route that we travel, some of us do like to play in the deeper water but that is your choice and we don't drive into water blindly. To date the only water crossing that has been unavoidable is the one getting in our out of the Moletotsi, and more than 60 Patrols have done that in the past 3 years alone. So the water is not a problem just a distraction :rolling:

We fill up aprx 9km before we enter both rivers, the only problem comes in between the 2 as their is not guaranteed fuel at Ga Selwane so you will need to work out your fuel consumption.

For this year you fill up in Giani, drive 12km tar and then 55km in the Klein Letaba river, get out drive 22km tar, 7km gravel (Ga selwane - fuel not guaranteed) and then Get into the Moletotsi river witch is 87km long, get out 9km tar to fuel station. (However aprx 40km into Moletotsi you can get out at Dzumiri for fuel)

so calculation for myself is as follows:
12km tar @ 6km/l = 2L
55km river @ 3km/l = 18L
22km tar @ 6km/l = 4L
7km gravel @ 6km/l = 2L
87km river @ 3km/l = 29L
9km tar @ 6km/l = 2L

Thus I need 57 litres for the 2 rivers itself

There fore a 80L tank should be sufficient to do the 2 rivers if you fill up right at the entrance.

Thanks very much for that info Dirk. I'll do my sums then, but at a glance Im sure I'll be good with the main and sub tank.

You need to do a hell of a lot of dicing and crop circles in the river to need extra fuel for this one.
