Dag Maats.

Gaan maar Brits probeer skryf, want anders sal Henning nie verstaan nie. Thanks to all of you who made the trip a sucsess. We had a little bit of a hicup with DAWID, but next time we will handle it diffrent.

The dune trip for next year we will have at Goerapan, that is 80km north of Upington. We hope to see more Patrollers then.

If possible can we put a date to it asap, it is far to drive for any one of us, and there are chalets, but it is expensive to stay, and Goerapan is popular, so I would like to fix a date.

Hope that all is safe. Once again thanks to all you Patrollers.

Folkses - I'd also love a write up of some of the technical aspects. For example, I remember when I drove there a year or two ago. There were one or two dunes just unachievable with my 4.5. I'd literally feel as if I'd run out of power at the point where I could almost reach out and touch the top. All the 4.8's made it up with no issues. So just curious - how did the diesels do ?

Simply put it is all about power to weight ratio.

2 vehicles virtually identical but the one who had bumpers, rocksliders and protection plates would not get as far.

Of less importance but still important is the softer suspensions seemed to get better traction.

The 4.8 bakkie with leaf springs disappointed but I think his weight was too far forward so the leaf springs caused it to bounce, lose traction and dig in.

The surprise to most was Michael's diesel. I thought the usable rev range would be too small but he actually did brilliantly and if he did not have quite enough he would tinker under the bonnet a bit, there would be even more black smoke and he would then make it. :woo: :woo: :woo:

If all goes according to plan I will take the Firetruck next year as it has less weight, should be making big power by then and will either take out some of the leaf springs or maybe a coil conversion on the back. Could be the perfect vehicle.
